How long does build process take ?

My car is in production but it was estimated to be done today but they pushed it 2 more days. Does anyone know how long the build process is ?

Mine took 10 calendar days. That seems to be about average from what I have seen.

Yep. 10 days is around average. There is no definitive amount of time. There are so many moving parts (literally). If a component or something doesn't arrive on time, or doesn't pass QC, things can be delayed. Weather and other things can also impact.

Someone said about 35-40 hours. BMW uses JIT manufacturing, and with some of the storms we've had, that could have messed up deliveries of materials. For example, when I toured that factory a few years ago, they said the order of the seats was made only about 2-days before they were needed on the assembly line. If there was any hiccup, the thing would have to be pulled off, or the line stopped, as some things just don't work well going in out of order. They do this because they don't have to have a huge amount of inventory sitting around, and it makes it easier to make a running/update change since there's not a stockroom full of parts that have to be used up first/modified, or trashed. But, if there's a hiccup, it can cascade and affect the whole operation. Doesn't happen often, but does.

Recent timing for production

According to the information provided by the patient folks at the 1-800 number:

My X5 entered production on February 27, completed production on March 7, and is due to be delivered to my dealer in Cincinnati today, March 11.

A few more days and my long wait is over!

Similar timeline here. The car was delayed at VPC for some reason though.

How can I track the progress of my car? I already have the VIN number.

You can use My BMW on bmwusa.com or call 1-800-831-1117 and say "Vehicle Production Status".
