Godly that's a record, and I thought mine was high enough at 15.6mpg, compared to my 12.4mpg e71 lol

I just took my 2014 X5 Xdrive 50i in for service. They will be replacing the valve stem seals to fix the oil consumption. They need my X5 for a week to perform the work.

I'm nearing 40k miles and I have topped off like 4 times thus far. I do enjoy spirited drives regularly; the 50i is not to be babied with!

When you say topped off , how much oil would you say in quarts have ou added in 40k ?I just got a cpo one and it had 40k when I got it and I’m keeping a eye on the oil level so far so good as I have only put about 1,500 miles since I got it.

My dealership did an official oil consumption test where they did an exact measured oil change. They yellow paint sealed all the oil related add areas. After 1200 miles (it should have been 1000) I was 8/10 of a quart low. Of course they said it was within specs. At least it's in my history now.

My mechanic once told me 5k miles oil change intervals will be a good idea for our 50i engine....

That’s what I was planning on doing, not going with what BMW recommends as that is way to long.

Would be interesting to inspect the piston and cylinder surfaces of those engines that require top off b/w oil changes.

Yeah, a notice on the iDrive will pop up telling you to fill up 2 quarts as soon as possible.
