Slight noise from time to time. Not as bad as before.

I had new rotors and pads installed last month under warranty with the so-called updated pads. The same day I could hear a faint squeal. It squeals a bit now and then - a very muted squeal. Definitely significantly less than before in frequency and volume.

Sorry, late to the discussion guys...having the brake squeal on my 2017 X6M. After 2 unsuccessful visits to remedy the problem, took it to a local garage that works on BMWs and found out that I have the wrong our outdated pads. They have even fractures in them and I have not had any track time with the vehicle. Just normal driving for what it's worth. The new pads were mentioned earlier in the forum, not sure if anyone supplied the part number. I have the part number and will report it to my local dealership here in SA Texas, hopefully they will fix this annoying issue. Will post what happens this week. Misery loves company!

The part number for the newer part is: 34 11 7 852 969. Anyone hear anything different? Apparently the new part became available on 09/01/18. Hope this helps.

It's not the only part number available for the front pads. You don't specifically need it to request the "new" pads. They simply supersede the old ones.

I think I can dare report that (after the new updated pads) the squeaking is still very much faint, whenever it squeaks. Most of the times it does not squeak. But I'm still skeptical and would like to see this continue during summer when temps are higher - fingers still crossed (including the middle one meant for BMW )

My F85 manufacturer date was July 2018. It was apparently the last Melbourne Red to roll off the line (not like that has anything to do with break squeak though). 2819 miles to date. Rare brake squeak from day 1. Do I have the "new" brake pads or should I expect more squeaking in the near future???

I'm sure you gave the old. Search through the thread and you can determine when they came into effect. But it wasn't July and even if it was I'm sure you didn't get them at the factory that quick as dealers are buying them up all over the country.

Unhappy

I give up - mine have started squealing 2 or so months after replacement with so called "updated" ones. Not so bad as before but I guess it's just a matter of time, at which point I'll just try to carefully apply BMW brake pad paste to the contact surfaces as shown in the pic.

My story was similar. They installed the updated pads and they were actually silent for around 3000 miles. Now they just as bad as the original pads, maybe even worse when the car is dirty.

I took mine in to a local dealer in Los Angeles. I was told that the SIB applies but the parts are currently not available in the US at any dealership and that lead time was several months. Can anyone verify this? I have a pretty good relationship with my CA so I don't think he's BSing me but this just sounds off.

I put ceramic F10 M5 pads on my X5M and there's no squeak, squeal or brake dust any more. The F10 M5 front pad is a bit different shape than the stock pad but the backing plate is the same. I used PowerStops and LOVE the no brake dust life!

I was told the same thing by BMW of Greenwich / Mamaroneck. Apparently there is yet another revision of the pads (newer than the new ones people were having installed in the fall)...

I just had my front brakes replaced last week (pads & rotors). They had the car for a week. I was told by the SA and mechanic they had to wait on brake parts, so they could be in short supply. FYI, no more squeal, at least for now...

Did you go with the Z23 compound, specifically the Z23-1648 on the front?

PowerStop told me an X5M front pad would be available soon in the Z23 compound. Z16 compound has been available for months. I might ping them again. Tempted to just use the M5/M6 pad.

For how long (mileage) have you had this heavenly experience? We too experience it for a few months/several thousand miles after the BMW dealership purported "fix", and then the squeals come back with a vengeance.

Yup, that's the one that has been on my X5M now for 2000 miles. I does not have the bite of the stock semi-metallic pad but I personally don't care about that at all.
