Denver People, what Winter Tires do you use ?
Have to drive I-70 into the front range to go home and once or twice a year it can be a parking lot, considering Conti DWS or Blizzak's and 19 inch wheels ?

I live in Denver, I'm running DWS on my 20's for the summer and I got some X-Ice's on my 19's. Every winter here varies but snow's a must if you'll be up I-70.
I've had Blizzaks before and I feel they're the best winter tire however they're very soft leading to a squishy ride and not the best tread life. I liked the fact that the X-Ice have a 30k or 40k tread life warranty and aren't as soft of a ride. They're also really good in the snow/ice and I got a deal at Discount on them. |

I've used the DWS06s last winter and they were fine for light snow. But I would get a dedicated winter tire if you are going to be in the snow often. I haven't decided on one for this winter but am leaning towards a set of Nokians.

Blizzaks, they are reasonably good, but they are not as good as I expected them to be based on my previous cars.

Well, there's nothing like tire choice or oil preference to spark a religious war.
FWIW, I've run with the Hakkapeliitta R2 in the standard sized 19" run flat for the past three seasons, and I would probably get them again. Tread life has been excellent. Handling and noise level is very good, while the ride is a little bit stiffer than the OEM Pirelli Scorpions. In deep snow I feel like I don't have as much bite as I have had with non-run flat Hakkas on previous vehicles. Maybe it's because the tire is fairly wide, or maybe it's because the run flats are so stiff. Either way, I've never come close to getting stuck. I don't think you would need to worry about anything but the worst conditions with these. And when the snow gets that bad, I-70 is probably closed anyway. |

19" Hakka r2 suv for 11 years. Top winter tire in Sweden too.

I think any dedicated snow tire is going to treat you well. I personally think the blizzacks are at the top and what I have. But, as mentioned, they are soft. Dry road feel is squishy. I chose michelin x-ice for my wife's xc60 and they do fine too, with maybe not quite the ultimate grip of the blizzack, but much better dry road feel.

I just run all seasons in the winter. 2 winters of 19" Scorpion Verde and last year switched to 20" staggered DWS06. Just don't drive like a moron and you will be fine.
