Stealth Hitch Installed
Installed at dealership for 200...its an easy installation but requires to drop a bumper and I had no time for that.
So far I really like it. You can lock it too so no one can $&# with it. Totally invisible without connector. |

It took me about 2-3 hours and all by myself.

It looks like he was using the hitch for a bike rack only and no towing / no trailer wiring.
If you use the OEM wiring from your dealer, here is how a Pollak 11893 Socket and 12-711U bracket mount to the hitch though I have one of the brackets flipped 180 deg in this picture: |

Don't use the screws that are included from Pollak as mine are already orange with rust after just four weeks on the car. |

extra pair hand is alway better, but it can be done by one person. the first time I DIY on my e70, it takes me 6 hours, the process is about the same as the newer model. After that for my F16 and F85, i just let the shop do it!

The Etrailer site says "Noticeable fascia trimming required" for installation on both the Curt and Draw Tight. Does this mean I'll be "trimming" part of my m-package rear bumper to allow room for the receiver? If so, anyone have a pic of this? Trying to figure out if I want to DIY or pay the $600. Thanks for the info guys, this is a ton of help

I also traded my X5 in for an M3 recently. Last week I had a local installer handle the M3 hitch install. They did it in less than 3 hours also. I thought about installing it myself but have too many other things to juggle. The kits are great and come with everything needed. The M3 did require some slight trimming of a heat shield. My X5 didn't need anything like that. Last edited by arrivederci; 04-02-2019 at 03:58 PM.. |

Have a question for folks that bought the bmw harness and module for wiring... how did you code the car? I just went through all the ECU’s on BimmerCode and don’t see anything that will allow me to code for the retrofit?
I have a trailer wiring ⚠️ warning until I can get the thing coded. Not a huge deal as I don’t plan to run a trailer soon but annoying nonetheless. |

I have installed a few of them in house. I believe the kit should come with free coding, you just need to set the appointment to get it done.

I have also installed two of these hitches: Execuhitch on an E70 and Stealth Hitch on F15. Appears to be same ownership but different companies. Product is very similar. The receiver block on Stealth hitch is now stainless. Execuhitch receiver block rusted badly but was replaced free of charge. The hardest part for me is removing the bumper cover. Get yourself some good plastic trim tools to free up the three tabs on both sides around wheel wells. Overall these have given excellent performance. No rattling. Perfect alignment. No trimming necessary. Programming is included if you purchase the OEM wiring from Stealth. You connect your laptop to the car and open a session with the remote programmer.

Could someone who has done the stealth wiring kindly advise. I’ve wired up the left turn, right turn, and marker wires but am confused as to where to tap for the red ‘brake’ wire and purple ‘reverse’ wires.
Thanks so much! |

Most people here have used the OEM wiring module and harness. You will probably need to look up the wiring colors through ista.

Did you ever figure this out? About to install my hitch and wiring soon (tap wiring not BMW harness). Per the instructions, it appears that the red and purple wires aren't used? Seems strange since red is brakes and purple is reverse...

Me: In the wiring instructions, I see that the brake (red), reverse (purple), and electric brake (blue) harness wires do not have corresponding vehicle wires in the chart on page 12 of the instructions. Are you saying these wires are not used? Cust Serv: Yes these wires are not used. The red wire is not needed for this vehicle. The blue wire is only needed if you have a brake controller. The purple wire is only needed and connected to the reverse wires if you have a trailer with surge brakes. Me: For the purple reverse wire, I do have a trailer with surge brakes. It would be nice to connect the reverse wire so that it triggers the electric brake lockout actuator when in reverse. Is this possible? Cust Serv: Yes, just connect the prple to the reverse wire. We do not identify it but you can find the color when you remove a small panel in the tailgate. Note if you are testing it, the tailgate may need to be closed. |
