LCD Instrument Cluster

So I have found different threads talking about the LCD instrument panel. Does this definitely come with the Driver Assistance Package?

I believe it's standard on NA cars. I don't see it listed as being part of any options packages in the order guide like it is on some other models. The last time I decoded a VIN I don't recall seeing it either.

Shaw in Canada had it and I don't think he ordered DA or DA+.

It isn't full LCD, just the lower 1/3 of the cluster. RoW cars have another option which features a smaller LCD.

Careful - the full width LCD is not standard on NA cars. It's tied to HUD.

It is not standard. Read this thread and pay attention to posts of BMWMN1971. He got his car with no extended instrument cluster. No one knows, especially not the BMW dealers, what you need to order to get extended one. The theory is HUD, but someone else said the key is to have speed limit info as it uses the left part of extended cluster which may be missing if you do not order this feature.

I stand corrected. I don't want to spread bad information. I just can't find the exact override. Perusing the parts catalog though it appears to be tied to HUD. I've seen SLI on the smaller screen on other cars.

I haven't personally seen the X5 without it.

I've decoded about 10 different VINs from X5's on the ground and I don't see anything that shows which cluster is included. Whereas on the 5-Series, for example, I get this:

The way it was explained to me was that if you got the Executive Package, you automatically got the HUD which in turn comes with the advanced display (NA). You don't have to get any of the other driver assistance options to get the panel. You also automatically get the Active Driving Assistant which is standard, but if you don't get the Executive Package which equals no HUD you won't get the lcd panel.

I just got the driver assistance package which includes the rear view camera and HUD, so should I expect to see it? I did not get the driver assistance plus package.

Yes. It's looking like HUD is the common denominator on the F15 platform in the US. The BMW geek inside me just wants to know what exactly is required and why different option codes don't show up.

It took me reading through that thread a few times to get a better understanding of what was going on. What was lacking was a photo of the two different dash options next to one another, so I've added those here.

After reading the other thread it just seems that it is only a smaller part of the dash is LCD? BMWMN1971 also seems to have a backlighting problem that may or may not be related.

Here is a picture of BMWMN1971's dash and my HUD'd dash (after it came off the truck).

Display and HUD

One of the reasons I got the HUD is that I seem to always prefer to position my steering wheel in a position where lots of the instrument cluster is blocked from view. I don't care very much about what's on the cluster because I am getting the immediately needed info projected on my windshield. On other cars the steering wheel used to drive me crazy because I had to look around it to check my speed. No longer an issue with the HUD

I got the Extended version with Premium Package...I have no DAP...
By the way, I wasn't sure if I'd get it, as it doesn't say it comes as part of Premium...so not sure what triggers it...
and yes...I have HUD that comes with Premium package in Canada...so that could be the reason?!

Just when you thought it's over. In this thread you will see that HUD is not the only option that triggers extended instrument cluster. f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954812 (cf. post #15). I will repeat myself.... I think it is enough to have speed limit info to get extended lcd. On the other hand... not ordering a HUD seems like a waste of still very rare opportunity.

It may be unlikely someone would pick speed limit info alone and skip other more useful or fancy options available in the same package/bundle. But x5pilot's car shows you can have extended lcd without hud. Getting more precise may be difficult.

I'll let you know in July (I've just added 8TH to my order today) I don't really want the HUD since I know I won't use it though I would really like the extended display. I'm hoping that with the now standard Driver Assist and with Speed Limit Display I'm increasing my chances somewhat.
My dealer says I'm wasting my time adding more options since the extended display is now standard in the UK though I don't know whether to believe them or not. I've seen no evidence to support this; the UK price list / spec sheet is still dated January 2014 so until the new revision of this document is released I guess we'll never know.

I was searching through the list of spare parts for the f15 here in greece and it states that there are 3 types of instrument cluster and it says that you can get the extended LCD without the HUD and without the Driving Assistance package .... i hope when i go for order in april i don't have to add HUD because if i do i have to pay 4000$ more due to taxes so am hoping to add with the changes in the list and the add of Driving Assistance package.... i want so much the extended....!!!
