Its obviously a personal choice. I like the OEM clean look - shinier non chrome the better, but the black wheels look Bad A$$. (Yes I know BMW has OEM black wheels but its not really a standard BMW look).

if wheels were beat up and I had the car for 3-4 years, I would probably go to the black just to have a new look for my X5 (my X5 is 3 weeks old). Another option would be to get nice aftermarket black and stick the OEMs in a space in the basement...

My vote is silver...

How about something in between? Silver grey? Or gunmetal?

Between the two option you listed, silver.

Have you considered a light bronze???? Or my favorite, magnesium.

Or as turbo posted, grey or gunmetal..... or titanium.

I personally don't like black wheels on the X5. It is sort of OK on a black car as it gives it that stealth look, but I think the contrast is too high on a white car.

Obviously this is personal choice. IMO it's hard to decide just looking at pictures online - you'd need to see black in person, ideally even live with a set for a bit to know for sure if you liked them or not.

I'll say this - I've never really cared for black wheels on any vehicle. Last fall I bought a 2017 Space Gray 50i M Sport from a BMW dealer on other side of the country. It checked all my required boxes, but came with the black 469's. I figured wheels are easy enough to swap out, so I bought the vehicle expecting to look for different wheels shorty after purchase. When it arrived, I immediately loved the look. Maybe I wouldn't on other exterior colors? Perfect contrast on a Space Gray M Sport, IMO. Maybe too much contrast on white?

I did buy a set of 599M's as they've always been my favorite F15 wheel, but I love the black 469's so much I couldn't part with them, so I turned them into a dedicated winter setup, even though it's not really needed in Seattle where I live.

FWIW, I always think that black wheels, at least from the side-on view, lose too much definition, they kind of turn into black blobs. If you want a darker wheel, gunmetal grey is the way to go, just look at classik_erik's setup - dark enough to be almost black from some angles, but still showcasing the wheel design:

I prefer the Blacked out look but I'm a little bias.

I do agree with ems328i that you lose some of the definition.

I will eventually coat mine black for a more aggressive/sporty look since I already have the black trimming.

Very subjective question as other's have pointed out. FWIW, I don't like gloss black - especially on white vehicles. If you want to go dark, go with a gun metal type of color as someone else mentioned. Bronze isn't a bad option either. Personally, I'd probably go gunmetal or a brushed silver/gray sort of color.

Black shows up all the scuff marks and curb rashes more than silver
