Changing coil packs on 2017 Xdrive35i

Coming up on 70k miles and I'm looking to do a spark plug change on my 2017 Xdrive35i X5. I'm going to order from FCPEURO, but needed Info to whether to buy Delphi, Bosch or Genuine BMW. Genuine BMW is significantly higher than the other two, however I don't want to spend extra money if not needed. Any suggestions?:

I think you would be fine with the standard Bosch ones , I purchased and used them on my 335xi that had the n54 engine and was tuned had no issues. Good luck

Recently bought the Bosch ignition coil to replace on a 2014 50i, and one was bad right out of the box. The ones manufactured in Slovenia appear to have quality control issues. I’d recommend the Delphi or even better the Eldor (not listed as a fit for F15, only the E70s, but apparently they are)

Can you please share the link for the Eldors that fit the f15/f16 50i?
I could not find anything on fcpeuro, ecstuning or other places that would fit.

These are not listed as something that’ll fit, so check with fcpeuro. Listed as fitting F15s here https://www.oembimmerparts.com/BMW-F...8657273f15.htm

Just an update. I went with your suggestion from FCPeuro and the X5 has been running strong with no issues. Thanks for info!

I went with these. Haven't had 1 issue since I installed them back in June

Great,

I ordered the same ones.

My coil on cylinder 8 is misfiring really bad, I moved it to 6 and the issue followed. I have 2 more that misfire rarely.

I am going to replace all 8 at the same time and toss the 3 bad coils and hold on to the remaining 5 that do not show misfires incase I need them for replacements for my X5 or Z4.

I replaced all 8 with the Eldor coils.

I will say, they do fit differently than the stock, the upper boot seal is not as tight, I found if I slid the boot down the shaft a little it helped it seal and hold them in place better. They just don't get that vacuum seal like the stock ones.

Without moving the boot down it would be loose and effortless to remove. I feared the coils could come loose at first. Sliding the upper boot seal down about 1 inch allows it to seal and hold so much better.

This fitment issue may be why you do not see them on the list of coils that fit the N63.

To sum it up, they work and fixed all my misfire issues along with the plug change. Just be aware of the adjustments needed for the upper boot seal, luckily this seal is not part of the entire body and it can slide down with a little effort.

How’re the Eldor’s holding up? Any issues with seal coming loose over time? I replaced coils and plugs on my buddy’s 2015 50i yesterday, and noticed the “loose” fit as well. I used your method of sliding the upper boot seal down, to get a better fit, but they’re nowhere close to the snug fit of OE Bosch, so I’m somewhat concerned about the coils coming loose over time and causing misfire issues.

Gravity and a small seal should be fine. I’d imagine the much tighter fit of of the Bosch is to prevent water ingress, not bc they’re afraid they’ll fall out.

What’s the service interval on coils? Is this more preventative or is 70k the recommended change point? 35i here.
