My X5 is missing features or just basic?

Some maybe. Most will be way expensive and difficult. But again it depends what you're missing.

Don't jump to conclusions.. its quite possible that the analog dash might be more expensive to produce than a digital dash.

OP, just enjoy the car for what it is... If it bothers you that much, I'd sell it and get another one to your liking.

Ambient lighting has it's own option code...if you don't see it listed when you decode your VIN...then you don't have it:

S563A - lighting pkg

Anything can be added if you have the funds, time, and patience. But I would assume that if you have the S563A option code...that you will probably have different wiring harnesses running around the car. So to upgrade to this feature would require tapping into the correct wires so that the data commands can travel to the correct control module and lights.

For example, the diagrams below for the door's harness...there are multiple part nbrs to choose from based on how your F15 is optioned...to replace one...you need to select based on if you have or don't have the options listed in the supplemental column. This will also apply to the doors (handles), too:
