i'd be interest to know as well. I recall seeing a tutorial from IND for removing the start button that required you to remove the entire panel (pain in the arse). And then came a video that you could just pop out the button with some sticky stuff...

Actually it can be done without removing anything except for the M1/2 buttons.. Use some masking tape to protect the outer trim and then gently apply pressure with a flat head plastic trim tool on one side(upper side) until you hear a small "click" and then repeat the opposite side and done!

Use the trim tool where the black arrow is pointing and pry out the button, then press in the red ones and presto!

Patience is the key word here. Not much force to pop out.and it popes out easily.

Seriously. Don't worry about the buttons. Change your diff fluids or something that will preserve the ride. Does Charles Le Clerc care what color button? Just seems inane to me.

Better to bump this up then start a new thread...

Did any of you have to remove the negative battery cable for installing the M1/M2 buttons?

You have to remove air bag and steering wheel to remove M1 M2 buttons. No other way. It is very simple to do it. there are several videos on youtube. I did it and whole process took less than 30 mins. You have to remove negative terminal and let the car still for 15 minutes to drain the power completely before removing the air bag. F85/ F86 has two batteries so I removed negative terminal on both.

You don't have to remove the steering wheel. You can look through this thread:

I just did this, when I bought a new Alcantara steering wheel. You need a very tiny screwdriver to pry the side up. When I bought a blue M1/M2 buttons, it came with a tiny screwdriver, the kind someone would use to glasses, and this black tar stuff that was super sticky, that you apply to the button in order to pull it loose. I even have a thread on this.
