I am sure they are not mentioning it because when I last spoke to our SA, he told me that he had no idea when the parts would be available, and knew no more than I did on the subject. So instead of scaring the customer, they'd rather not say anything until they have more info.

Called the dealer today, and was advised there is no remedy for this problem at the moment (which is total bull*** because there is) and I need to wait for the second letter stating it can be repaired. So I asked what if something happens before I get second letter, reply was bring it in to asses the damage and what caused if it falls under the recall.

"No remedy" means they are not ready to take care of all the affected units yet, not that they don't know what the fix is. They have described the fix on the letters.
BMW NA is securing the necessary parts from the manufacturers/suppliers and making sure each dealer in the country (and world) gets enough of them, the logistics are not as easy as people may think. The letters have been sent to make people aware that they know about the issue and are working to resolve it. Patience is the key, every affected owner will receive a letter when it's time to bring the car in for repair.

Did anyone get an update on this recall and/or the solution?
My car is going in for a separate issue soon, would be great to have this open recall looked after at the same time.. |

Greetings
Here's a link to SaferCar.gov Recall Documents for 18V755. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/c...55&docType=RCL The site contains not only detailed information from BMW on the recall but also contains a full set of instructions on the remedy...including color photos of the process. My 2014 535d is at the dealer now awaiting their analysis. I have continued to loose coolant over the last six months and there are NO signs of a leak. Hopefully the dealer and BMW will do the right thing and conform with the entire recall process. More to follow once I have a response from the dealer. |

Found out the dealer has not even purchased the borescope needed to make the evaluation.
They put the vehicle under an overnight 'pressure test' according to the service rep and found no leakage...even though the vehicle was found to be low on coolant two times in the last six months. Now they're telling me since there's no leak the EGR cooler is not the problem. The service rep has stated there may be an issue with a valve in the coolant overflow tank or a possible vacuum lock in the pressurized system. I'm doubtful of their troubleshooting. Does anyone have contact for a BMW (US) escalation team? Next step may be to file a formal complaint with NHTSA and FTC. Thanks! |

If BMW released the EGR cooler recall it doesn't mean that you have this problem, I got a low coolant warning last year and it turned out to be a leaking hose, even I didn't see any coolant under the car in the morning.

To your point; First of all it's a Safety Recall. BMW Dealers are PROHIBITED from selling affected vehicles until the Recall is complied with. Does that surprise you? I don't believe the NHTSA would write a Letter to BMW N/A with a Subject line: "Coolant Leak Within EGR May Cause Fire" unless the issue is serious. Also, and as important, the Dealer(s) can not or will not comply with the basic EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER INSPECTION (VERSION 2) which is a relatively straightforward procedure. So we have a BMW Safety Recall and a well documented inspection process to determine if the component(s) have failed. Why not comply with the inspection?? Take a guess.... Maybe you'd like to try and sell your X5 3.5d without verification? Good luck and many miles of safe driving. |

I just looked at CPO 2017 X5 diesel, they are for sale by BMW, I also just checked BMW CPO site and there are at least 18 diesel X5 for sale within 250 miles radius. I am not trying to argue that this is very important matter and I want BMWNA get it fixed ASAP, I asked my SA 4 times since I got my first letter and every time I heard the same answer "No remedy yet, no parts, wait for another letter". In your particular case it sounds like it is loosing coolant, which is bad but what I was trying to say is that it might or might not be related to this recall, that's all. I understand your frustration with BMW dealer unable to find the leak, it took me 3 visits and almost 10 days in service to get a rattle fixed in my steering column.

I live in a large metropolitan area and can also see numerous X5d's and 535d's for sale by BMW. I've also taken the time to contact two regional BMW dealers who stated in writing that the Safety Recall was recently complied with.
Point being: The dealer has not offered any reasonable explanation of why it's loosing coolant The Safety Recall is directly related to loosing coolant thru the EGR cooler At this time the Dealer can not or will not comply with BMW's EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER INSPECTION Many other Dealers have complied with the Inspection therefore placing used vehicles back in the active inventory All that being said... My next request to BMWNA will be to move the vehicle to a Dealer that is equipped and willing to make the needed inspection. It's good to know there's a great Forum that allows us to communicate, and vent a bit! Your comments are appreciated and I hope you have many miles of safe driving!
