Exhaust valve mod?

Is one able to "open" the exhaust valves by disconnecting the wire just like in the F80/82 M3/4? I can't see whether the valve stays open after driving in a sport Plus and turning off the X5M. Yes I know IND has a controller but this is much cheaper and I am curious to see what it sounds like....

It should be the same as the F80/F82/F83. Sport+, Rev Engine, Shut off, and Unplug. I haven't done it because the drone wasn't pleasant on my last F80. Plus, need to code ASD off to get the most value out of it.

I've done it on my X5M after seeing a video of the M3 F80.

Well, I did it! Unplugged the valve harness and taped it all up. Sounds better especially lower rpms, not as much as I had hoped....maybe still need to drive it some

Same here. Not much difference. My muffler shop can take the muffler apart and replace the perforated pipes with solid ones for $500. That would be better.

I still admit that the exhaust on the X5M sounds so much better than the new M3/M4 stock. I love how loud the crack is between WOT gear shifts.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what does WOT mean?

I've done mine. Biggest difference is the cold start. DPs should take care of the rest.

Keen to give this a go. I notice the video was for an M3/4, is it identical for the X5M?

Literally, start the car, sport plus, short drive, switch off and disconnect plugs?

Yes , it works the same for the X5M than M3/M4 ...
You actually don't even need to drive it , just rev a flew times in sport plus should be enough.

Correct. Sport+ sounds even louder.

Question: just took a look at my exhaust before attempting this and was looking out for the valve. Noticed that the pipes bend before I can see the valves. Is that correct? I couldn't tell if what I was seeing was open, or that the valve is past the bend.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but there doesn't seem to be a difference in sound between Sport and Sport plus throttle response setting?

Maybe it's just me. Sport opens the valve wide at higher rev. Sport+ locks the valve open at all RPM. All I know is Sport+ sounds and cracks louder than Sport.

Did the mod. Very simple.

Immediately noticed the difference in Efficiency/Comfort with this mod compared to before the mod.

It just sounds like you're in Sport Plus even when in Efficiency mode.

Exactly what I wanted - more sound while still able to drive smoothly for traffic situations.

Sport Plus / D3 is far too jerky for driving in traffic so this is a good work around.

I didn't realise that Sport Plus kept them open regardless.

After a drive to and from work today in mostly heavy traffic, I think it might be droning quite a lot with this mod. Plugged it back in to do a comparison tomorrow. Will decide then if I want to keep the valves open or closed. Aside from the percieved drone, having sport plus exhaust characteristics in economy is awesome.

Unplugged them again this morning before doing a cabled test again - just to see if the drone I experienced yesterday is still really obvious. So far it seems fine, especially with music playing where I can hardly notice it.

I've just been reading and this Macht Schnell system sounds like it would be handy to close the valves on the go when i'm on the highway (to avoid drone), but still have an option to open them, even when in efficiency mode.

It just seems like a very expensive system.
