Brake Squeal FIX!

OK, so fingers crossed. I took my 2018 x6m in for service. I had them check out the clicking noise when you do sharp turns. I was told by my service rep that they are fixing the brake squeal as well. They ordered "backing plates" for the brakes. So I picked up my car today and ZERO squeal. Will keep you updated and hopefully it lasts. Also the clicking noise is gone as well.

Fingers crossed!!!

Interesting!

Are the part numbers on your invoice? If not, could you inquire?

NO Squeal (explanation point) - it has only been 3 days - I think you need to keep your fingers crossed for a lot longer. I hope that is the fix (backing plate), but given all the ups and downs on this topic it starts to look like a dog chasing its' tail to some extent.

I sure hope it's fixed.

I've done the following...

1. Drive fast and slam brakes (only lasts a day)
2. "clean" or wash the brake bads (day)
3. gotten new brake pads after complaining about the squeel (a day as well).

So I've actually driven a lot on the highway and city the last two days. Driven dry and driven in a monsoon (I live in DC) and still happy to say NO noise!

Has the weather 'copied' itself yet from when they did squeal?

Mine don't squeal with higher moisture in the air.

We still need to know part #'s or a PuMA # please.

My brakes squealed in heat/cold wet/dry...didn't matter. I felt like a bus driver. It's still gone now.

Ya, but can you get the details of what was done so we can request the same thing?

Ditto....would be a HUGE disservice to the forum members if this truly FIXED the squeal and you didn't do everything in your power to find out every detail about the fix so we can all go to the dealer and request armed with the exact specifics.

They installed backing plates for the brakes. Ask for that.

Since the day I got the car the brakes made a noise. No matter what I did it was there. It's gone now. It's "Only" been a couple of days but I have put a lot of miles on it...city miles (takes more of a toll on brakes) and no noise. Never gone this long before..ever. lol

Can you just call your SA and ask them for the part numbers for the backing plates they installed. You should know that simply going to my dealer and asking for backing plates on something that isn't standard is not gonna work without more info. They'll just look at me with arms raised in the air.

The brake squeal will surely come back after a while - don't ask how I know for sure.

This is likely a build that pre-dates the 'change' in brakes, or so I've been told.

The OP seems to say something different went down for him.

Here's the info on the new pads from my invoice:

New Pads Ordered Per SIB 34 08 16.

34-11-7-852-969 REPAIR KIT, BRAKE PADS
Follow up a few days after the repair:

FYI these did not solve the problem. It may have actually gotten worse!

Dealer says they will install aftermarket pads for me, so now the hunt begins.

They ended up removing the 'fix' and going with aftermarket ceramic pads.

I mean not sure. The post you shared was from 2016 no? I have a 2018 x6m.
I don't know about any other cars. But I used to have a 2015 m6 gran couple before I got my current car. I am very familiar with the M brake issues. I had it all throughout my m6 and since Nov. 2017 when I got my current x6m (from day one). I'm not saying this is THE FIX. I'm just saying that SO FAR SO GOOD. I've NEVER had my brakes not make a noise for THIS LONG...EVER. And like I have stated in previous posts that I have tried everything.

So I will keep you guys posted with progress. I took my car in and got it a day later. Was under warranty so I didn't pay anything (I lease)...nothing to lose.

The dealer removed the new pads and put on aftermarket ceramics pads.

1) doesn't sound right

2) wasn't aware of anyone that made ceramic pads for the F85 front calipers.

Goes in to detail in that thread if I remember correctly.
