I'll bet the installer was driving your car and a rock flew up and cracked the windshield. No way he cracked it by installing a dash cam.

Looking at the OP's picture: maybe the installer hastily glued the dashcam base in an inappropriate position and then tried to unstick it using a screwdriver to lever the base away from the glass?

It must have made a heart wrenching noise...

Ironically, a dash cam would likely have been the best means to ascertain what actually happened...
