Insurance

Thought I would start a thread for insurance information that may be useful. I have seen several insurance related threads, from total losses to windshields. All that info gets buried.

Profile: Chubb Masterpiece Auto

Chubb is the original high value insurer of choice. You want hassle free claims, look no further. Some newer high value carriers have enhancements over Chubb, but they are very minor.

AIG Private Client Group

Coming into the marked looking to take business from Chubb around 2005, AIG can handle anything our throw at them if you qualify. Coverages are slightly better than Chubb's, with things like cash out (if car damage exceeds 50%), 12,500 rental car limit with no daily limit, OEM included, and most importantly cars insured as stated/agreed value.

I have been with Liberty Mutual for 10+ years and I highly recommend them. One thing to consider when selecting insurance companies is whether they also offer good and competitive home insurance as you qualify for multi-policy discounts.

Good to hear about Liberty. Their cover isn't nearly as broad as the higher end carriers, but they have a decent rep.

Credits and discounts for combining coverages are typically good as the insurer wants a broader relationship. That is rewarded with a bundled price that is attractive.

One recommendation: ignore the actual credit or discount itself, and focus on what the total account premium is. Don't get hung up on 5 or 10% here or there....look at the totals. There are rating algorithms behind the scene that aren't obvious.

What's the cost for these high end carriers. Anyone have their X5M covered and willing to share monthly or 6 month cost? Ignoring regional/age/gender differences any number would be good for a comparison unless you are a high risk driver.

Is that with multi vehicle and homeowners discounts? I'm at about $2400 annually with Progressive for just the '19 X6M, no multi vehicle or homeowners. $500K/$500K, $500 deductible NYC borough. Been with them about 15 years. Only had one claim but they were a pleasure to deal with.

EDIT - Should read $500K combined single limit.

CO great example of state differences. Esurance is Allstate owned. Surprised that low with hail exposure but might have some limiting language or garaging requirements.

States like NJ have crushing rates. So much so you can choose to limit your right to litigate for certain situations. FL very high too as liability insurance isn't required! Imagine that.

Interesting. Your thoughts on The Zebra?

Zebra is simply a comparative rater tool. Also likely a lead gen platform where they are selling your contact info to insurance agents who will call you.

Essentially they take basic info from you, run it through some basic logic for insurance company appetites, present some options and you choose from there. I stopped just before the matching process as it wasn't clear if they were going to run an insurance score on me, which I don't want. It's like a credit pull for insurance.

Anyway, you can have a good independent insurance agent do all this for you. And present you options. Pick a good broker. IIABA, Big I, or trusted referral from friend or family.

Cheapest doesn't mean best as insurance isn't a commodity item (yet!).

Interesting point about the insurance score, duly noted. Thanks for your insight, it's much appreciated!

yes. I've been with LM for ~12 years and have good record. Had a couple of small claims on my house that they managed really well and also had tires on my previous Infiniti M45 stolen a few blocks away when I had to park outside (live in a good area but it happens) and they replaced them with brand new rims and tires on a 4 year old car no questions asked. I suspect I can get cheaper insurance but not sure I want to change providers given the experience
