RR SVR vs X5M

I know this has been discussed in the past here but I'm curious if anyone has lately done a switch from an RR product, SVR in particular to the X5M/X6M or vice versa.

My lease is coming to an end and I test drove a 2019 RR SVR. It was completely blacked out and had over 20k in dealer installed carbon fiber options

Probably the most impressive aspect was the sound of the RR supercharged V8 vs the biturbo V8 in the BMW. RR sound so mean and pops and crackles on downshifts.

I think the ride quality of the SVR is way more comfortable than the BMW. Even with 22s vs BMW on 21s. Must be the air suspension that's just softer. Cornering is much better in the BMW, less body roll and feels more stable. BMW also feels much faster.

I did enjoy the higher seating position in the RR and the interior felt and looked very nice.

Big turn off was the whole infotainment system and instrument cluster on the RR. It's just so laggy and slow and feels at least 10 years behind BMW. And this is not even comparing to the latest iDrive 7.

Curious to hear other opinions of members on here who have cross shopped both. I'm hearing horror stories about RR reliability particularly related to the whole software issue.

I can't stand the look of the new X5. And while it will be uber fast it still won't sound as good... at least my guess

So are you just looking for someone to tell you it's ok to go for a RR this time? You pretty said everything there is to say. RR reliability is garbage. They look good. Interior is plush. They are luxury not sport. Technology lags massively as you said and not as nimble or quick as BMW.

This sounds like you just need to make up your mind. We can't do it for you.

I should also add that my wife had an RR Sport last year and the infotainment system would randomly just go blank/dead on her. When she called RR, their recommended course of action was to pull off the road, wait 10 minutes (ten minutes...on the side of the road...who recommends that to a woman driving alone in a car???) and then start up again.

We sold the car within 10 months.

I’ve owned both and love the X5M over the RRS. Will PM you.

Sitting in your locked car at the side of the road is dangerous! Someone could see her!

Sound like to you already make up your mind, If is a lease! Why not, do a 24 months lease and have some fun with it.
I was on the fence on RR SVR before. But as of a past RR owner. I quickly dismiss the RR LOL. My past RR ownership experience is not so great. Beside the dealer quote me $8k to install the roof rack and tow hitch because the inventory SVR does not have it install!

Ha - I assume this is sarcasm, but when your wife/husband depends 100% on GPS to get around town because you've just moved there (which was our case), it's not so cool when you're in a part of town that's not exactly awesome and your guidance system goes dark. Maybe you're cool with letting him/her sit alone in that environment, but I'm not.

Hard to believe, but there are people out there who see a young attractive woman sitting by herself in an $80k car who don't have the best intentions. Even at the remotest possibility of something bad happening, I wasn't willing to take that risk.

Maybe I misunderstood your post.

My friend has a RRS he replaced the engine at 80,000 miles. He is very disappointed in customer service for RR. He will be going back to Mercedes after the RR.

When exactly is your lease up? I still have another 22 mo on my x5M lease and I have already begun considering the replacement. I would consider the new Merc Gle 63 or new Gls over any Range (if you are going outside BMW). But the true amg gle won't be on sale until fall likely from what I've seen and the Gls amg version probably late next year, so timing wise these may not be options for you.

AMG always behind schedule so don't expect GLE 63S will be on time

I have another 9 months left but I'm starting the process early since I am planning on placing a custom order and was told by the RR sales guy that SVR's take around 6 months.

Based on all these comments here and my own experience I might reconsidering the RR and look for something else. I don't like the new X5 so I doubt it will be another M for me.

I am excited to see the new GLE63 but given MB's track record new models are always late in the US and are stuck at the port forever (most recently new G63).

I will say the GLE 63S will be sometime end of next year. I have deposit for the GLC 63S on feb 2017, being told the car will be delivery between Nov or Dec 2017, and ended up no one in NA got delivery till 2nd quarter of 2018 for the first batch of 100 cars as 2017 model year. I believe 63 of them are edition 1. My 2018 production push to 3/4 or end of 2018, I cancel the order and move on .

I think they might announce it next week in Geneva. AMG posted a short teaser on Facebook and it appears to be front of the new GLE63.

Nice! My local MB dealer/buddy was driving a 2020 GLE450 the other day, first one I've seen in the flesh. I really liked it, thought the interior was well done. To me it definitely had more of a masculine styling than previous gen. Very curious to see both the 63s versions...the coupe especially.
