Those look pretty worn, as well!

We're probably in the same boat, where the car handles great feels smooth and planted at all times... I'm just concerned that this cracking in the rubber mean an imminent blow out (especially during spirited driving) or if there is no pressing reason for concern.
I agree with you, I have been wanted to ask that question since I found out those cracks. Someone with more experience please share your comments.

Yours look worse than the OP. You have a longer crack which I think means your rubber is old and isn't holding together much anymore. How long have you had them?

I don't think you'll have an imminent blow out unless you do burn outs. BUT, you could lose a chunk of rubber or have less grip than you think with the rubber getting older and harder maybe.

As always, check your alignment too.
Just my thoughts.

Skimmed through this thread and saw something but now I can't find it. Can someone confirm I can fit 275/40/20 and 315/35/20 on my OEM 611 wheels on my X5M?

Thinking of swapping out the stock Pirellis and getting Continental DWS in those sizes to use the setup for occasional drive to the snow in Tahoe this winter.

I just did it and put on the new Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4's. They are the same ones on the C8 Corvette and I like them so far. Much less tramlining and quieter than the Pirelli's.

@NikNala do you run the 20s all year? I'm on 22s now but considering downsizing.

for different sets, or rather for size 285/45 19 ins in base 107 or enlarged 111, these parameters are individual for each size. For example, there cannot be a 255/50 19 wheel, which is supposed to be installed on a car with a weight of 2t + but at the same time have an ins with a load of up to 500kg per cylinder. The tire size is strictly proportional to the load and vice versa.

I am currently running Continental Extreme Contact DWS06, 275/40/20 (F) and 315/35/20 (R) on my X5M with OEM 611 wheels.

I honestly don't think so, as a wider wheel, will effect turning radius as the wheel may rub the inner fender liner, also it might not clear the upper control arm ball joint. Someone on this forum put wider wheels on stock rims and had issues with rubbing. You would require the right offset on custom rims for it to work out, on deep concave wheels. I suggest you contact tire rack, or some top wheel manufacturer for advice.

I’m running these tire sizes, and I love the ride and I got the look I wanted with 21” wheels.
- 21 x 9.5” F et 20 275/40/21 Pirelli P Zero
- 21 x 11” R et 13 315/35/21 Pirelli P Zero
*upgrading to Michelin PS4 SUV once they release early next week.

Hello Folks!

New 2016 X6M owner here, but not new to BMW. I've owned E36 328i, E89 Z4, E93 335i convertible, E39 M5 (selling the Beast today) and now X6M.

I just bought this set of 19" rims from another forum member for this winter:
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1775214

There's enough tread for maybe one more season, but what's the consensus for the best winter tires in this size (255/50/19)? I'm in CT so we can get some big snow storms, and lots of little ones.

I see the Pirelli Scorpion Winter mentioned alot, but Tirerack has three different versions for this size (103H, 103V and 107V XL)-- which one is best/recommended for the X6M?

Also, what do people think about the run-flat version of the Scorpion?

Any other comparable/popular winter tires for X6M?

Finally, the 19" rims do not have compatible TPMS. What part#/model# do I need to search for for replacements?

Thanks.

edit to add: I've always bought Blizzaks for my previous BMWs and they're OK. I've also used Sottozero's once. But I don't see those mentioned too much w/r/t X6M.

All season 285/35R21 and 325/30R21???

It seems I may be searching for something that doesn't exist given my research to date, but figured I'd ask this group since I've found a lot of useful info here previously.

On my X5 50i I have 21" x 11.5" rear wheels and 21" x 10" front wheels with 325/30R21 and 285/35R21 tires respectively. I'm currently running Pirelli P Zero summer RFTs. Yesterday we had some light snow in the DC metro area and my X5's performance was awful compared to my previous X3 where I had all season RFTs (smaller wheels and all the same size).

Based on my online research, it appears my current setup just doesn't lend itself to performing well in the snow, but I'm curious if folks have found any good A/S RFTs in the sizes noted above. I need to be able to drive in the snow, and I don't want to switch to snow tires every year, so I'm considering swapping out the wheels to accommodate A/S RFTs, but I really love my staggered setup and would hate to lose it, so figured I'd check if anyone has solved the issue I have. Note that I'm willing to go down to a 20" staggered setup if folks have found A/S RFTs for that setup.

Appreciate any feedback!

I’m going to try and see if Dinan is enough. So I planned it so the tire is upsized, so I got .5” less clearance already, then Dinan hopefully taking it down .6-.75” should make it semi flush. But if it’s nothing enough I guess KW V3 it is, because I can’t compromise my ride comfort on the SUV just for the look. ZERO rubbing!

I won’t lie one general fear is now occasionally hearing that the car needs to be “recalibrated” when you change the wheels or suspensions. Yet I’ve never heard or read anything about that on the forums. Anyone have insight?

JD

I think you'll find that 19 inch wheels won't work on the F85/F86 due to the size of the brake rotors. You need a 20 inch rim. I had a set of 19 inch E70 winters which I had to sell as they would not fit on the F85 I bought. I purchased some 551 20 inch wheels got them refurbed and then bought 4 new TPMS sensors and all is good on my winter setup which has Yokohama Blue Earth with 275 on the front and 315 on the rear.

I see everyone running the 275 315 set up on the 20" rims on the F85 x5 what about the F86 X6M? I guess its the same rim so it should work?

Yes, it will work on the 20" setup. I have this same setup on my X5M.

On tires for those of us with the 20" wheels and don't like thePirelli gumballs that cost a mint and last for 10-12K miles, try the Michelin PS 4 A/S . Used 270/45 on the front and a 315/35on the rear. Same diameter, same load rating, tire wear 540. You can put these on for a lot less money and hopefully get longer life without having to changeover when the temp drops below 45F.

Is anyone running 285/30/22 front and 335/25/22 rear setup? it seems that with this setup the OD difference is 0.5%, which is better when comparing to 295/30/22 tires with 1.4% difference.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and new to bmw/x5. I am picking up a 2018 x5M (F85) on Monday and I am trying to prep the car for winter since I live in the NY area. The x5 comes with 21in rims with Michelin Super Sport
Front: P285/35R21; Rear: P325/30R21.

I am trying to buy a set of winter rims and someone has offered me OEM 20in rims that are front 20x10 and rear 20x11 (picture as reference), lugs is 5x120. Would anyone know if this would fit on the x5M (F85) and if so can anyone recommend winter tire brand and size?

Thank you in advance

Anyways, I would like to debunked some of myths out there on wheels and tires combo. What can you use and what can't you use. Post your questions here and I'll help you.

I'll start. The first common question as follow:

Q: The X5M uses 285/40/20 (or 285/35/21) front and 325/35/20 (or 325/30/21) rear, does running narrower or wider combos throw an error code?

A: Not really. OEM X5M 285/40/20 (or 285/35/21) front and 325/35/20 (or 315/30/21) have overall height of 736mm front and rear. This means there is 0% delta between front and rear rotational diameter. As long as your new setup has a 0% rotational delta between front and rear, it will not be an issue.

Example A, 275/40/20 F and 315/35/20 R both have a total tire height of 728mm. This means when paired together for front/rear, there is a 0% delta on rotational diameter front and rear. Your car ECU will not sense any issue with this setup.

Example B, 285/40/20 all around have a total tire height of 736mm. This means there is a 0% delta on rotational diameter front and rear. Your car ECU will not sense any issue with this setup either.

Example C, 275/40/20 F and 325/35/20 R, the front is 728 mm tall and rear is 736mm tall. This means when paired together for front/rear, there is a 1.2% delta on rotational diameter front and rear. Your car ECU will think your front wheels are slipping as they're spinning 1.2% faster than the rear, creating an issue.

Example D, 285/40/20 F and 315/35/20 R, the front is 736mm tall and rear is 728mm tall. This means when paired together for front/rear, there is a 1.2% delta on rotational diameter front and rear. Your car ECU will think your rear wheels are slipping as they are spinning 1.2% faster than the front, creating an issue.

Conclusion: Running different wheel/tire sizes than stock doesn't throw a code with the ECU, as long as the front and rear setup rotational diameter DELTA are similar to stock. In this case, most AWD vehicles like the X5M, likes a 0% rotational diameter delta between front and rear. As long as your tire combos achieve close to 0% delta between front and rear, you can run it on your car. Some cars like the F80/F82/F83, prefers the rear to be 2.6% taller. In that case, the new setup rear tires must be close to 2.6% taller in the rear to reduce computer intervention.

I hope this is helpful, please post more questions. I'd love to hear them.

Cheers,
Jimmy
Hey bud so you're saying if I run 275/35/21 & 315/30/21 on my x5m whose stock set up is 285/35/21 325/30/21, I will have 0 issues and the ride will be the same ? Better or worse in your opinion ?
