F16 X6 Smart Opener question

Has anyone with an X6 with Smart Opener done any e-sys coding?

I’ve retrofitted the sensors, control module to my X5 (BDC module is identical)
so I’m just needing the BDC file to complete the job. There are too many variables to guess at.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

No, Smart Opener is the touchless 'kick to open' for the back hatch.

Pretty sure it was a retrofit.

This is what I am retrofitting. The hardware is in place; I'm simply needing the coding from an X6 that has it.

Thank you! The '5e' is probably the key one that I needed. I'll get it done today and report back.

61-35-7-391-043 sensor -lower $27. Dealer
61-35-7-422-700 control unit $249. Dealer or used from eBay (my choice)
61-13-2-359-997 connector. Dealer

Wiring:
.35mm Yellow/Green(pin 1), Red(pin 2), and Brown(pin 3)
Pin 1 to LIN Bus for LF mirror and driver's door switch block.
-Soldered into blue/yellow behind LF kickpanel wire leading to pin 42 on connector 258*4B on BDC

I haven't completed the coding and final wiring yet so don't jump on this until I have it completed😊!

To do it "OEM Style" you need a new connector for the PDC/Smart Opener and repin PDC to the new one.

As well you need the pins for the ground and fusebox.

61 13 8 377 731 - fuse contact
61 13 1 387 140 - ground contact

Thank you for those connector part numbers. You mention connecting it to the PDC (PMA) module but that doesn't seem to apply for the F15,16 chassis according to the wiring diagrams in ISTA+. Can you clarify, please? Thank you!

Nope, you do not connect it to the PMA.

There's a connector under the bumper, which is used to disconnect the PDC sensors from a car when you remove a bumper. It's a 6 pin connector on the F15.

On the F16 PDC + 3 wires from Smart Opener go through this connector. So a 12 pin connector is used instead. You can pretty much ignore it, but if you want to make it "OEM", you have to repin PDC to the new connector + run SO wires through it:

I've promised to to write a DYI on Smart Opener some time ago, but looks like this thread contains all required information, so I'll add something else.

One of the challenges of retrofitting SO on the F15 is to attach sensors to the bumper, as F15 doesn't have clamps for them.

I've used weather resistant cable tie mounts and cable ties. Tie mounts are Panduit ABM1M-AT-M0, I've got them from arrow.com.

You just glue them to the bumper and attach the sensors with the cable ties. I've used 4 per sensor + 2 to attach SO module.

I attached the upper (flat) sensor with contact cement and attached the lower (round) sensor with adhesive backed clips from Lowe's (sorry, I didn't record the part number).

I used two sided tape to attach the module to the bumper and oriented it so the connects were facing downward for natural drainage of the electrical connectors.

How did you come up with the necessary coding? I'd messaged some of the E-sys gurus but they weren't able to help.
I'd almost resigned myself to having to add the emulator module that eliminates the need for coding but I REALLY didn't want to do it that way.

Looks like your E-sys gurus are not gurus enough

There's a wonderful tool from TokenMaster - NCD / CAFD Tool, which allows you to track what parameters are changed by the different options. So you just plugin F16 instead of F15 and check what parameters are changed in BDC. Easy!

One more thing - closing by kicking motion is not enabled by default, you have to change couple of parameters. One is vam_enable_smart_close in BDC and there's another one I do not remember in HKL, but it's easy to track down.

I have the tool but haven't used it yet. No one I asked could supply the F16 file; how did you find one?

You use the same file, just apply a different "type key".
