Pictures of X5M F85 with H&R Sport Springs
Please post a few if you have the springs installed.
And please save the comments about coilovers... Thanks, Chris Last edited by Blue By You; 02-05-2021 at 07:36 PM.. |

Get KW V3's. The stock shocks do not do well with springs or the VTF kit. I've been through the pain of buying both and paying for installs twice.

I just want the look
I definitely don't want to spend the money and delete the EDC for coilovers. What's the biggest issue with the sport springs and/or VTF?

Mine rides perfectly fine. Just don't set the rear too low.

VTF?
So these are VTF? I keep hearing so many different things about VTF and sport springs. Some people are saying that you can't set the VTF much lower than stock without sacrificing a ton. But yours looks low, what's your drop?
I hope someone will post up pictures of an F85 with sport springs and ease my mind about the ride with those too. Thanks |

I, like many here in this forum have tried to save money and kept the use of edc in our X5M's. We all wanted that lower stout look, along with great handling! We all hoped that when we installed H&R adjustable lowering springs, we found a way to save money by taking a short cut to lowering our vehicles. What 99% of us found is that we should of listened to all the posts that suggested to not waste our money on lowering springs! Keep in mind, I have used H&R on other cars and they worked great. The X5m just weighs too much and what ever height you set them at, your never going to get a better ride then stock or better yet, KW coilovers! If bouncing and hitting your bump stops is what your looking for, then you found the answer, go with lowering springs. However, if your looking to lower your car, have a great handling SUV and not have a bouncy ride, then save yourself time and aggravation and go with coilovers! Keep in mind, there's a lot of us that tried lowering springs and pretty much all of us regret it. Good luck with which ever way you go! Also, once you lower, then you have to spend more money on KMAC adjustable bushings so you don't go through a ton of tires!

OP I completely agree w this post 110% I too did this what he is saying on my E70M and it is rough I dealt with it for years while others splurged or aka did it right with KWV3's until I got my F86 last August and immediately told myself you can do it again with H&R and save some bucks or do it right this time and change how I felt for years and every woman asking me is something wrong with your car??? Going over normal roadway bumps... KWV3's all the way |

I apologize for the harsh words, but I see post after post of the same question about lowering springs! The answers are going to remain the same with what is out on the market today. If there were a progressive spring that worked with the F85 chassis, I would strongly consider them, in order to use edc again. I have invested in KW V3's and to date, they work the best for lowering, handling , adjustability and more importantly the safety of myself and the occupants of my vehicle! When I had lowering springs on, I felt like the vehicle was unpredictable! The only time I felt good with lowering springs is when the car was in the garage or the parking lot! It looked really good and when other people told me how good the car "looked" lowered. The only reason I decided to post, is because one of the many reasons I like this forum is because each one of us can find a post to answer our questions or share our experiences with different mods.

It would have been great to know what your exact setup was. But I appreciate your input nonetheless. |

I don't have aftermarket suspension on my X5m, but learned a hard lesson when I was building my e39.
H&R parts are the lowest of the low when it comes to quality. The make the best POS suspension parts. They are so favorable because they cost the least out of all competitors. I tried ACS, H&R, Eibach (almost same as H&R), Dinan shock/spring (lol) and it wasn't until I came across KW where I was satisfied. I am running KWv3 on my e39m5, e46m3, and X5m eventually. Of course this is when it comes to street suspension. If you begin talking track. Reserve 8k at least before you go shopping. Then one must get the car on a suspension dyno to balance the car. This maybe a bit extreme for some. Same goes for all aftermarket parts, including tires. |

I'll check tom. To the peeps saying it bounces or is too harsh it's bc they set the rear too low. The VTFs are absolutely fine. No issues for myself, zero bounce. Installing things yourself gives you the opportunity to fine tune the rear until the ride is to your liking. My X5M with the VTFs rides way less harsh than my brothers stock M5.

Interesting that other threads suggest people are happy with their spring set-up but this thread is very firm on KW's are literally the only option for the X5M.
Are springs a problem only when going with an aggressive very low stance or are all springs just THAT bad? I was considering the Dinan springs but I can't find much info on them other than on Dinan's website. |
