F15 Oil change

I need an oil change on my under warranty 33000 mile 2016 X5 35i. I have changed oil on my other 3 series so I know the procedure.

The question is after the oil change, is it advisable to prime the oil system (being this is an N55) by running the starter with the fuel injectors unplugged?

I plan to use BMW oil.

If you want to help prime, you could pour oil in the filter housing before putting the cap on.

Is priming really necessary for a wet sump?

I could understand if we were talking about a dry sump with a remote reservoir, but the X5 is a wet sump.

+1. With most/all with a cartridge filter setups, you can easily get half a quart in there or more. While unlikely you'll harm anything by not doing it, it's been known to throw a code for oil starvation that automatically clears a few starts later. If it's enough to throw a code, it makes sense that there could be a small amount of excessive wear that you can avoid by simply filling the filter/housing.

Do you think techs at your friendly BMW dealer bother to do anything like that? Exactly...

Don’t bother pre filling filter. Unless u pour it in the correct way. Modern vehicles do not need that. Espwith sucj a small amount. Different story with a large filter on a Tractor trailer
