I wish I could but I would have to take the bumper cover off. When I built it 3 years ago I used my phone a few months later the phone took a shit lost all my pictures,,,I made it so heavy duty it could pull 10,000 lbs but I know that’s too much for the X5 to handle

I miss my E70 which had adaptive drive and self levelling for towing. The F15 has the self levelling, but it doesn't tow anywhere near as smoothly. Guess its an unfair comparison since it doesn't have DHP

This was after picking my Four Winns from winterization. She goes into the garage till next summer . Also one of the primary reasons I did the F85 big brakes. We sometimes still tow the 200km to boat on Lake Ontario to go to the islands, or to go explore other lakes besides the one we are on

Disc brakes on all four wheels, but they are surge brakes. The X5 still needs to stop to compress the actuator within the coupler. Thats where good brakes on the X5 come in Going down a steep hill, once compressed, I can actually take my foot off the brakes as the trailer brakes hold everything quite well.

She pulls no problem D all the way.
Typical sounds with unibody as sound transfers much more than frame hitches but beside that works like a charm.

20ft dovetail with my '76 Datsun 620 LWB. Still averaged about 20mpg @ 65mph.
And heaviest to date was a Gehl skid. Probably a touch over rating with this one, luckily I was only going about 5 miles. Little bouncy, but the rental place had this trailer set up like shit for balancing the load. Stealth Hitch with Curt Switchball. No tow module (yet). |

I can't seem to find a definitive answer for this maybe someone here will know. Is it safe to use a weight distributing hitch on our cars being that they're unibody? I just bought one and I'm gonna try it but it would be cool to hear someone who has a more solid answer.

I believe the official BMW answer is no with the OE hitch. From the e70 days, there were people who had reinfornced the hitch and were runnning WD hitches

A unibody doesn't have the long steel beams to support the torque like a frame would.

Are there any recommended settings for the X5 (50i) for towing? I know many vehicles have a tow/haul mode that can be enabled but im not aware of anything on the bmw.
