Anyone do their own engine air filter change?
I’m not a real diy person. Not since cars got so complicated.
I’ve ordered a Mann’s filter and have tried to find a you tube video for the f15 years for the install. Looks like the full engine cover snaps off. After that all I found was a video for the 50i version which doesn’t help me with the 35i. Any suggestions will be appreciated. |

Not tough at all. Try N55 air filter when searching. That is the F15 x35i's engine code. Loosen the band clamp past the air filter housing on the tube where in bends into the intake manifold. Loosen, but dont fully remove the 6 bolts. The bottom half of the bolt is a coarse thread and the middle half before the head of the bolt is smooth. So you can loosen them and then they will pop a bit, remaining captive in the cover so you don't have to full remove them out of the cover. Then pop the cover off, swap the air filter and then opposite to reassemble. Ensure the cover is lined up properly then tighten the 6 bolts down in an alternating pattern. Snug is fine. The torque spec is like 3nM IIRC. Attached is the tech service, may help also. Any more questions ask away. |

Glad to see this remains simple. I have noticed many fewer F15 videos than other models. For my M cars there is a video for every procedure.

How to change f15 X5 V8 N63TU engine filters
Just an FYI in case someone with the 8 cyl f15 X5 stumbles into this thread looking for info on how to change the engine (not the HVAC) filters...it’s a relatively easy procedure to change out, too.
1. You remove the “middle” cover by unscrewing 7 screws (I believe they are T-20 or T-25)...then lift up & out

Omg. Took a whole 10 minutes.
The original filter sure needed changing after 5 years and 33k miles. I thought the filter box was under an engine housing but nope. Right there on the open. 14 bucks from Amazon for the filter. Thanks all. |

The microfilters for the HVAC system are back on the fire wall & require removing some pieces at the back of the engine bay (left side if standing in front of the vehicle)..then there's the interior recirculation filter that you access below the glovebox.

Oh great there’s more?
The dealer changed out the cabin filters under warranty just for the heck of it. No idea there’s another one for the HVAC . Thanks for the info |

Then on the inside of the cabin...below the glove box area...there's the interior recirculation filter (#2 in the diagram below):
