Black Exhaust Tips on M Sport?

For those of you who have black exhaust tips, did you paint them yourselves or did you buy them online? Or did you have a shop paint or powder coat them?

Does BMW make them in black?

TIA guys!

Painted mine myself. To me, the chrome tips just look out of place with the shadowline trim and the black kidneys. I believe the M Performance Exhaust has black tips.

Thanks for the comments guy, I found some DIY but none of them say how to remove the tips. I rather not paint them while on the car, I want to avoid any overspray.

Any tips on how to remove the tips (no pun intended)?

The stock tips are welded on to the exhaust so the only way is to cut it off then reweld. Most guys here were able to paint while on the car just have to use extra masking paper.

Most of us who have the M Performance Exhaust or aftermarket exhaust, we actually paint the tips before we have it installed.

You can still paint it without removing the tip, just make sure you mask your bumper enough with masking tape and newspaper.

That looks good 1230vani ... did you prep the tips by sanding the surface? If so, with what grade of sand paper?
Also did you paint this with the tips off or while on the bumper and masked it with newspaper and masking tape etc?

Thanks.

Thanks. Well the dealer did it as a favor actually. I was told that they did sand it and in the end the job was done twice (as my contact at the dealer was not happy with the results). Bumper was taken off apparently. I got the info here on the forum and there are plenty of people who did it themselves without taking the bumper off. It holds quite well and it was professionally done. I would recommend the product.

I did mine with the Foliatec can listed above.

My 1st time ever using a spray can and they have come out awesome. Painted them as they are installed on vehicle, just applied newspaper all over the back of the car making sure you tuck it in tightly around the tips and use masking tape to hold away from chrome.

My car was only a day old when I did them. So pretty clean but I didn't have to abraid them just applied straight onto chrome. Cars 4 weeks old now and the tips still look awesome with no paint chip so far.

Really easy and out of all the mods I've done it's the most satisfiying to look at knowing it was all my own work!

Nice You tube video on it here and lucky the spray is being applied to an X6 so perfect like for like job.

Let us know how it holds up after 3 months or so... Without properly prepping the surface the paint chips off according to some others.
