One exhaust pipe dirtier and works more than the other one

I have 2018 BMW X5 xDrive35i. I bought it as a new vehicle. Starting last year, I had to deal with various service needs of this vehicle. I am learning bit by bit.

I notice that left exhaustion pipe is dirtier than the right one. I also notice that the exhaust gas comes mostly out of the left one. Based on reading this post

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1220699

I assume that what I saw and observed is normal. If not, it would be great someone experienced can let me know.

I am wondering whether and how I need to clean the exhaustion type.

Normal, as the right exit has an actuator that only opens under higher loads, thus is closed most of the time. You can look under to evidence the mechanism which isn't on the left side.

That's the 35i. Those with a 35d have no actuator so its an evenly split exit, thus both tips will get dirty evenly over time.

As for cleaning, Meguiar's Hot Rims wheel cleaner does a nice job with soot.

For further agitation, use a stainless steel scrubber:

Thanks so much for the explanation and info. I just bought the scrubber.

Have a great Sunday.

Best.
