Dreaded Drivetrain Malfunction

Recently installed a brand new RC GTS. Drove to San Diego last Tuesday with RC setting on Efficiency and toggled between Sport and Comfort mode. The 500 miles drive down to Hermosa Beach and San Diego was fun and uneventful. Spent a few days in San Diego and drove back up to NorCal Saturday morning. I change the RC mode to Sport and the vehicle in Sport mode. The 400+ miles drive was both fun and uneventful. However, the vehicle threw a Drivetrain Malfunction with about 90 miles to go. The car went to limp mode with less power I turned off the RC unit and drove in eco pro. We came home 1.5 hours later, turned off the car and plugged in my Autolink reader. I turned the car on and the DTC error code disappeared. I scanned it and my code reader didn't see anything wrong. I figured it was nothing and the sensor resetted. This morning we drove to the coast (Sonoma) to visit our friends. The vehicle threw the same error code. We pulled over, turned off the engine, and waited for a few minutes. I turned the car back on and the error code is gone. However, the check engine light is now showing on the dashboard. We got home and plugged in my Autolink and it gives me this (see below).

Had to leave with the family for dinner so I couldn't look into this further. I guess I'll be removing the RC and taking the car to the dealership tomorrow. I hope it's nothing serious.

Had a chance to dig deeper. The code is P00BD ($07E8 Generic). mass or Volume Air Flow A' Circuit Range/Performance - Air Flow Too High

There are two others showing up are ($07E9 and $7EF) but with no corresponding "P" code with it.

Sounds like the full ‘race’ setting is a bit too much for your car to be happy.

Have you driven the car in the middle setting at all? Can you switch to a lower map using the buttons on the device, rather than the app?

Edit: I just noticed you have MPPK...are you ‘stacking’ the RC GTS and the MPPK?

With premium gas in California being only 91 octane I had problems using higher modes on my older RaceChip Ultimate.

Yes, I'm stacking the RC with MPPK. No, do not physically change the RC mode via the button.

You simply just need to dial it down. Plenty of threads on the RC discussing this.

I only have 3 options with the GTS; Efficiency, Sport, and Race. I was on RC Sport and Sport mode when the Drivetrain message came on. Bummer!

Are there more settings on the unit? Maybe it's a defective unit or rather the differences between eco and sport are too large. I would contact them and express that it goes away when you remove the unit. Also does it do it when you're in eco mode on the RC and just sport. Or no matter what setting

It has to be something else.
I have the MPPK with RC GTS Black, it has been in Race mode for a year, and I always drive in Sport, never experienced this.

I have under 10k miles when I installed the RC unit. I put 1400 miles during my weeklong road trip.

Stock drop in filter.
Check your air filter box. Maybe it didn't sit properly.
You did remove it to access the sensor below it, right?

Next thing would be your chargepipe. Check if there is any leak or loose.

Damn, your good Ben. I found what I hope is the main problem. The sensor on top of the charge pipe (see below) popped out. I pushed it back in.

That should be it.
It is hard to put in. Apply some lubricant of choice for the o-ring and press hard until it really lock in place.

Will the Error code eventually clear itself after I drive it around? Or do i need manually clear it? I have an Autel 319 sensor but it doesn't clear any codes.

It will clear by itself since it is not a hardware error.
