Question If no X7 by end of '17, what 3-row SUV would you buy?
My lease will be up by Oct '17, and I don't think we will see X7 by then.
I am considering upgrading to a 7 or 8 seater, but I can't really see anything else drives like X5. What are my options? MDX? GL is too tall for my garage, sadly, I'd love to get that if I could. What else? Thanks guys.

Im in the same boat. I'm looking at the model X 90D. It has a 7 seat configuration. Although it's not for everyone, I'm thinking of trying something new/different. For the same price (maybe lower) as a well equipped model X I could get an X5M (but no 7 seat option there I believe)....

I was in the same boat and settled on the X5 with third row seating. Its not nearly as bad as claimed, unless u really need the 7 seats most of the time and for really long trips. Otherwise its manageable for 4-5 adult sized and 2 shorter than average adults.
I almost pulled the trigger on the q7, but x5 beats in the looks department. |

Well, i personally think that if one needs a third row which actually can accommodate people with some level of comfort.... it is time to accept it and get a minivan. Unless one wants to drive a behemoth like Esque or Nav. ))))

LX570 is my option. But my garage doesn't allow me. And I hate parking outside.

I keep only one ride, I agree minivan is the best option for family car, but I am trying to multitask and I set my expectations low, I understand "3rd row" as an option is not a substitute for a proper full size 7 or 8 pass vehicles.
Thanks for the reminder, maybe the new model made some improvements on 3rd row, otherwise I don't remember it being much better than X5 with 3rd row, I'll go back and look at it. Quote:

XC90 Q7 Nobody mentioned MDX, is it not reliable or something that I don't know about Acuras? Since this will not be utilized on a daily basis (I just want to try and gather two families, 4 adults, 1 young adult and 1 kid, or 4 adults, 3 kids in car seats/boosters in same car whenever we decide to go on a road trip. So while it wouldn't be utilized on a daily basis, whenever we get people in the vehicle, it would be at least 4-5 hrs trip, so they need to be somewhat comfortable.

Mercedes GLS is very roomy. Decent looking for a large SUV.
http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content/...avi:highlights Edit: Missed the part about GL not fitting in your garage...that's a bummer for sure. The GL is a beauty Last edited by TallTrees; 09-13-2016 at 02:00 PM.. |

weird I had a 06 MDX and it was the most un-reliable car I've ever had. at year 3, things were breaking down one by one. I've had more luck with BMWs than that POS..

The wife went with the Sequoia. I have been pleasantly surprised and she loves it. It is more nimble that you would expect. It gets large vehicle mileage though. She also came from an Acura MDX.

An 06 would have been 1st GEN MDX...they did have a lot of problems. 2nd Gen were one of the most reliable on the road.

I had an 08 Acura MDX, only a hand full of minor issues for 7 years. Only oil and gas needed... Space utilization is very good. Test drove the XC90, nice car and space... Didn't like the four cylinder engine, it's powerful but too harsh (supercharged and turbo) too many moving parts. The new Q7 is probably my choice if I can get over the ugly front end.

Q7 but if shopping 3rd row only and no-frills the LR4 has (had?) the largest 3rd row available without going into the American SUV (IIRC).

PS: I was surprised to see Volv XC90 is such a wide vehicle at 80" width compared to 76" X5. I guess that's all there is, unless I go with a Minivan, anything else we're forgetting? Sounds like Q7 will be up for a test drive, if I can find one with 3rd row, unless it's standard now. I remember Mercedes had a version of Pacifica or whatever Pacifica was based on, why on earth did they discontinue that model..

This thread reflects what I've read about MDX so far, either no problems, or a lot of problems, and if they now made it less "premium", it won't help either.

in access mode "crawl mode" it reduces the height by 1.6". i do not know your garage or it's dimensions but if that is enough then it should clear. i prefer the outgoing LR4 with the eight cylinder motor but if you're shopping new only then you have no choice but to get the SC6 unless dealers in your area have leftover V8.
