Bumping this thread for anyone searching for all seasons. Tire Rack is now listing the Pilot Sport All Season 4 in the slightly smaller 275/35/21 and 315/30/21. I'm pretty psyched about this as I had these tires on my Stinger and loved them, they'll be great on the X5. There's no date for these to come into stock and stuff like the treadwear ratings are "pending" so it looks like it's a brand new size.
Similar to DallasDave, I'm in the DFW area and while it doesn't snow here much, we'll get spells where we get very frigid days and the MPSS turn to plastic and buying a dedicated winter set makes zero sense. I'll be keeping an eye on this and as soon as they're available I'll pull the trigger on them. My MPSSs are getting pretty low anyway and I didn't exactly love the A/S 3+ on my Vette.. not that they're in stock either. |

Yep, we are in the hunt for a new set of tires and I really want all season units. I spoke with Michelin this morning and they do NOT recommend the tire sizes listed above due to their lower load rating. OEM size front is 105Y, smaller size is 103Y. OEM rear tire size has a load rating of 108Y vs the size listed above with a 105Y.
I don't know what the heck to do. BTW the Michelin rep went on to say that performance summer tires are not meant to be driven in temperatures lower than 40 degrees.

You're not supposed to drive them in temps under 40, but I've taken MPSSs and MPS4s down to just at freezing before. I would not go anywhere near the 20s with them, they turn to plastic Power Wheels tires fast. Another reason why I hate being stuck with summer-only rubber here.
The 612M size just sucks for tire options. Period. This weekend I'm going to shell out another $2k for MPSSs because I need tires now (didn't realize how worn down the inside of the fronts had gotten) and there's nothing else available that isn't backordered for *at least* a month. After mulling this over for about a week, I've come to the conclusion that the best option for someone who wants more tire choices is simply to get rid of the 612Ms. I'm looking at a few different models of 20" wheels, and this is the size combination I think I've landed with, using the RFX11 wheels as an example: Front: 20x10 Offset 35 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 275/40/20 Rear: 20x11 Offset 38 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 315/35/20 This would net a wheel/tire combination with the same diameter front/rear and minimal, probably imperceptible changes in "poke". It also nets me more sidewall to deal with the garbage DFW roads and I care much more about year-round usability and overall comfort than I do balls-to-the-wall cornering. It's an SUV not a track car. There are lots of good tire choices in this size. If load index is truly a concern, the MPS AS4 fronts are 106Y and the rear are 110Y, exceeding the rating on the factory MPSS. DWS06s are available in this size as well, and I was just out driving this morning on those tires, which I have on my perpetual project car. They never felt unsafe or out of control, even on the snow/ice mess that our roads are at the moment. They also got me through the Winter 2021 debacle driving multiple times from Watauga to Mesquite, through the worst of it and the days that followed. They're shockingly competent in the winter as far as all-seasons go. I wanted to start putting this set together now as one of the tire sizes and one of the wheel sizes is/was backordered, but I guess it's onto the MPSS for one more round. Great information! I am considering a new set of wheels too, but am hopeful I can just find tires in a 21" diameter with just a slight change in overall size.
The beauty of purchasing a 20" wheel combo, it he price of tires comes down considerably.

I'd like to think my automobile knowledge is somewhat vast, but when it comes to wheels I seem to be totally lost. Will these fit my 2018 X5 M?

Wow, I really thought I was onto something.. I didn't realize BMW did all the work for me of figuring out the right wheel and tire size. I'm an idiot. I totally forgot there's a non-M winter wheel and tire set.
Yes the 491s come in the winter wheel and tire kit for the F15 and F16 and will fit fine. |

Well, I'm about a week away from making a new tire purchase. It seems we have settled on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ in the following sizes:
275/35-21 fronts 315/30-21 rears There is no AS4 option for the rears, so that's why we are defaulting to the AS3+ tires. I still have a little concern over the load index, as the A/S 3+ in the sizes listed above have a lower load rating lower than the OEM. Two places tell me it matters, one place states that it will work just fine. Even the lower index rating supports ~2000lbs each. Thoughts/input would be greatly appreciated.

The load rating of these tires are XL which is the max anyways and matches the OEM spec.
The lower speed rating “V” (up to 149mph) vs “Y” (up to 186 mph) was the concern called out by Michelin themselves. I don’t expect to drive close to any of those limits, so I intend to switch to these when they become available. |

The Michelin rep that I spoke with was much more concerned about the load rating, not the speed rating. He went as far as to state that it wouldn't be safe (hence the reason I'm asking forum members for input). Tirerack said it would be fine as the lower rating still meets the vehicles weight requirements.

No worries. What do you think? Will the AS3+ work just fine?

Looking at the AS3+s, they’re XL for load rating as well (same as OEM), so I don’t know what the concern would be. Personally, I’d run them if I were considering them (I’m not).

Got the new tires installed today and they seem great (for the five miles I have driven). Smooth, quiet and now we have all season shoes!

Bumperino to this thread as there still aren't all seasons in the proper 612M size.
Noticed a few weeks ago that after about 7500 miles, my rear tires were shot. Decided I had officially had it and wasn't going to entertain the insane price for MPSSs that I don't want anyway. I'm also selling my project car to my brother, so I absolutely need the F85 as a year-round daily driver even if it freezes or we get a dusting of snow. Rather than dump yet another $1200 this year on tires for the rear, I pulled the trigger on all new wheels because I'm so far over finding a way to keep the 612Ms. Went with 20" OZ Superturismo Dakar wheels (10x20" front, 11x20" rear) and Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus tires (275/40/20 front, 315/35/20 rear). Wow, what a night and day difference in road noise and overall comfort. No, the DWS06s are definitely not as "glued to the road" as the MPSSs, but they are shockingly good at carting around a 5300 lbs SUV. There is a very small amount of sidewall roll at initial turn-in, but that's about all the give they have. Overall road manners are very good, with no tramlining; not that the MPSSs did this either until they were well worn down. The OZs aren't as pretty as the 612Ms, but they're not bad and for a daily driver (read: not track car) that doesn't see Nurburgring duties, the DWS06s are an excellent match for something like the F85.

Does anybody here had experience with this one:
Scorpion Zero All Season 285/40 R20 108 Y XL Doubting getting these all around, but after some posts doubting if the all season will work in snow conditions. Not normally driving “fast”, but there will be a lot of snow in Europe |

If I were living in an area that gets real, significant snowfall I would get proper winter tires. Here in North Texas, all seasons are plenty appropriate. When I lived in Pittsburgh, I ran actual winter tires from November to April or so.

Updates?

Any updates on how these tires have done since you have them? Not having all seasons has been a pain and this looks like a good option. I ran the AS3+ on my 335i that I used to have. Have you noticed any difference or inaccuracies with the speedometer with slightly different size tires? I am in Indiana, sometimes we get a heavy snow or ice but not that often. I did not use my snow blower one time last year. If it gets really bad I just stay home... lol |
