Those are Carbon Ceramics, and I know for a fact that they aren't cheap. But they last 40% longer then the brakes we have.

So forgive my ignorance here. I want to get bigger rear calipers. Do I just order from Tronik and I can leave my fronts as they are? Do calipers ever go bad? Should I wait until I need new calipers to make the switch? What do the back calipers cost from Tronik if I don't have them painted? I want to paint local as I want it done in yellow for front and back. Do the Tronik calipers change anything other than the size? Better braking power or anything? Thanks.

Calipers don't really wear out unless you have harsh conditions and poor maintenance that would cause a piston to corrode. Tronik's eBay price was cheaper than their website price. 1474 euros ($1856USD according to paypal) vs $1700USD on ebay ($100 shipping included). He knocked off $250USD for unfinished calipers. In theory, fixed calipers in the rear would improve pedal feel/firmness. I'm still waiting to remove the stock rear calipers to measure the piston diameter to see how surface area x 2 compares to the surface area of all four pistons in the fixed caliper.

I don't understand why anyone would want carbon ceramics on a car like the X5. A new set of rotors is $16k+, they chip easily (gotta be careful with those boat anchor wheel/tires combos), and you have to be careful with whatever chemicals you use near/on them. For the latter, people say they don't dust, so you just have to hose down.... On super cars, sure, but for a 5000+ lb SUV? Hard pass.

They do give off some dust, but its very little. It's equivalent to using say Carbon Ceramic Pads. But, I agree with you that having Carbon Ceramic Rotors on a 5000 lbs. vehicle doesn't make sense to me. And you must exercise caution, as one chip and their toast.

I just ordered the Panamera rear calipers from Tronik, and I reached out to them for an ETA. And was told that their staff in Europe where the parts are shipped out of are ill. But, I will contact them tomorrow for an update.

Guys I didn't mean the carbon rotors specifically. I meant to say how nice floating rotors look on our vehicles. Those just happened to be carbon.

The stock rotors are also floating, no? Slightly different looking where the hats might be cast aluminum, but there are still radial pins that allow the rotor to expand and contract with heat cycles.

Yes. It seems that way but they are UGLY as hell. Sorry. I'd rather have nice finished hats on my floaters. There must be a way.

Definitely considering the Tronik calipers if you guys totally figure out the calibration etc. But depending on how that works out, I'm all about the performance over the look if it comes down to it.

For now, I'm painting my calipers and new stock rotor hats. I did this as long time ago and it worked out well. Ugly rear calipers but they also hide pretty well behind stock 612 21s.

I got a tracking number from FedEx, that said essentially that my Tronik Calipers have been picked up from Riga, Latvia. No ETA as yet, but there enroute.

But, I think your referring to these, which are truly floating two piece rotors.
These are Brembo that came on my 07 E63 AMG. I do have to admit, they look better than the ones on my X5M, although the X5M rotors are larger by 1.4" in diameter.

Shekshyyyyyyyyy wow. I love those. I wish someone made these for the f85. I'd buy them in a heart beat.

I think the f90 has a few options but then I'd have to get that bracket from Tronik.

My F90 M5 Comp has the carbons, and they don't squeak at all. The stopping power is absolutely incredible. I wish I could have a fraction of that on the F85.

I just wish that Carbon Ceramic rotors didn't cost so dam much money. Their benefits are they offer very little fade at high temperatures, less brake dust, last 40% longer, look great, and weigh less.

Bmw's reasoning for not having CCB on the SUV, is because it's an SUV and most people take it off regular roads. Should they offered it on the X5, perhaps. Maybe it will be an option in the future.

I don't see why you can't fit a CCB from an M5 to the X5, but will need an upgraded caliper in the rear.

As mentioned earlier, one chip on that rotor and you out a lot of $.

Like you’ve already mentioned, perhaps BMW understood that if owners take their X5M equipped with CCB, they will get ruin by mud and grit. CCB weren’t meant to be submerged in water and mud in extreme off-road conditions, that one would take a Jeep thru.
