Time to get some oil, lets not fight, just point to a good place to buy.

HI Guys, I need to do my oil change. Having a hard time finding any recent threads on the subject. Sorry if I am a noob.

Where are some good places to buy Motul or Luquimolly, with OE filter kit?

I'm at 44K miles 2017 x5m. Are we still ok to use LL-04, or is there some new info out.

Also, what viscosity do you guys recommend? I floor it few times a week is about as much abuse as it gets.

Ty in advance.

My '16 X5M at 52,000 is running well on Liqui Moly 5W-40.

Out of factory/extended warranty:
If you're doing 5k mile oil changes, you can't go wrong with any current or former LL01 rated oils: castrol edge/Mobil one euro 0w40, pennzoil euro/liqui moly/pentosin 5w40, bmw TPT 0w30 or 5w30 (especially manufactured by Shell if you can get your hands on them).

If you follow extended OCI: don't 🙂.

Under factory/extended warranty:
Use any LL01-FE oil for MY 2017 onwards. I used Motul specific 5w30 from FCP euro.

One other option is to take advantage of BMWs "3 oil changes for $200" special for vehicles older than 60 months or 60k miles. My SA confirmed that M vehicles are included too, so you can supplement the dealer oil change with a change of your own every 5k miles. If you're up for shipping oil back to FCP euro, then that's probably the most economical route, with access to top quality LL01 and LL01-FE oils.

I agonized over and pored through a ton of information about oil for our rigs. And I agree with you.

Motul Specific 5W30 if you want the FE. Amazing specs for the viscosity/grade.

My indy says that LL01 without the FE is also okay for our rigs (mine is a 2017 F85 specifying 0W30 FE), he pulled it up in his BMW system. Whether or not you believe that, and plenty of people do run LL01 without issue like he says, is your choice.

If you do decide to run an LL01 5W40, Motul XCESS GEN2 5W40 has insane specs. Better than anything I have seen from those other brands at least the specs I could find from them.

LL01 is better than LL01-FE for our engines, but if you're under any sort of warranty, you don't want a catastrophic engine warranty claim denied under a technicality - my $0.02.

It's a no-brainer, FCP Euro it is.

I'm not affiliated to these guys, it's just that I buy all my car parts from them, and over the years I've verified that their lifetime replacement guarantee is real. If you're a DIY'er, your car maintenance costs could be practically $ 0.00.

Thanks everyone. FCP it is.

I am out of warranty as of this year. So I am for sure going with best for the engine.

FCP doesn't sell motul at the moment it seems. And I personally find amazon a bit sketch for things after getting a $15 sneaker cleaner only to receive fake product.

One more question. Filter wrench. Is there any not overpriced one out there that definitely fits the car?

FYI Motul X-cess gen2 5W40 can be purchased on Amazon and other online sites no problem.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's great stuff: BMW (LL01) approved, lower viscosity (brings it closer to FE flow than most other 5W40 oils), with a 3.8 HTHS (better than just about any BMW approved 5W40 available).

Better off getting liqiu moly from ECS for 36$ per jug.. Are BMW piston rings and rod bearings made out of some sort of different metal that require such exotic oil specs?

No debate. You do what you want with your rig. Just an FYI on potentially better oils available.

For me, $20 total difference with shipping and tax (I found another online dealer for less money) every 5-10K miles for the best oil (or clearly one of the best) is well worth it for the added protection. Especially if there is any harder driving, idling in the heat, occasional track day, etc.

But Liqui-Moly seems to have a great brand and a great program. And a lot of people use them, so probably can't go wrong with them.

Absolutely. But 1) there are some dealers who will install anything, and 2) there are potential ways around this issue depending on how badly you want the better oil in your rig.

What's the difference between the Liqui moly and motul? Is there actually some evidence anyone sees between the two?

Bump the thread
Have same issue here-The car is 34k miles on clock, have warranty to 2024 (Premium Selection) and really hard to choose right oil
Regular oil change on every 5k miles
I'am located in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe) the winter is cold and summer is hot
The car is daily driving and thinking about 5W40 or 5W30.
I don't know in USA have Motul 300V Competition 5W40; Bardahl Technos XFS C3 5W40 or Motul 300V Power 5W30 ; Bardahl Technos XFS AV504 5W30
All of Bardahl oils (5W30/5W40) cover LL-04 Specs, Motul 300V Range have a Ester Core Technology and is racing oil
