Run Flats => TPMS => Rotation
So I was wondering about something. We have had our X5 for around 6 months or so, it has the run flats (more on that later, a whole new post) and I was surprised to see the recommended pressure is 36 psi for the fronts and 44 psi for the rears (seems high). Since there is a 8 psi difference between the two, if I rotate the fronts to back and backs to front, do I need to get any TPMS programming done to represent the new tire locations and their recommended PSI?
Example: The TPMS for the fronts might not provide a warning if say the actual pressure is 30psi which is only 6psi off recommended but that same TPMS if moved to the rear still thinks that 30psi is not that bad but now in reality it's 14psi from recommended not 6. |

I believe you will still need to reset your TPMS when rotating or replacing the tires.
My BMW dealer told me not to rotate them at all. Not quite understand this theory. And, I kept 36/44 (cold) setting in the past 33-months. Mine is about 27K miles so far and will be returned once the new lease is ready. The lease inspection reported my tire treads/depth is good. I'm still considering if I need to buy tire protection insurance/package in the new lease. |
