Two things FTDI CDM driver installation failed. I thought I had that figured out but now I'm wondering if I got the wrong cable. FTDI CDM is used for usb I believe and my cable has a ethernet connection. I got everything installed and click on the program. Windows ask for permission for the program to run or make changes(can't remember exactly what it said), I click yes and then nothing at all happens. ISTA never opens up. |

I need to apologize for all of those that have tried to help. I've been posting in the wrong forum. I have a 2014 but I think it's an E71. I never knew the difference until Red Y asked me which I had. I just saw 2014 X6 so I posted in this forum.
Maybe the moderator can move this to the E71 forum. |

Got ISTA working and tested my X6. After reading everything it has a misfire on 8. Said to check coil and plugs. I just changed all of the plugs and had 2 new coils so I put one on 8 and ran the test again. Everything good and idles with no problem. As soon as I start driving it misfires on 8 and gives me all of the drivetrain errors to not drive. I'm going to swap out the 8 plug and coil just in case. Also, just to make sure I know the correct cylinder order I believe 8 is the back on the drivers side? I use to not think much about this but on my Rover you will get two different answers on the forum and it's gotten bad enough we had a guy run a test with a video camera running.
Any other ideas? Would an air leak cause a misfire on just 1 cylinder? |

Well good news and bad news.
No more misfires. Since I only had one misfire on 8 I decided to switch the coil and also plugs. Ended up being the plug which is brand new. I put an old one back in and no misfires. Bad news. Have codes 006462 ICM: steering angle model monitoring 006E8C DSC: Interface ICM 006E9D DSC: Interface ICM 00CF80 Signal from engine management:setpoint torque request Everything is good but when I go to drive these pop up. I've tried to go thru the test plan in ISTA but haven't had any luck so far. |

Everything is good now. I had to run the steering sensor calibration in ISTA and it stopped all of the malfunctions.
So I'm not sure what for sure was originally wrong because I used a generic reader but I changed the spark plugs and that seemed to fix it. I did get one bad spark plug that made it take longer but ISTA helped. I guess you can get low fuel pressure with bad plugs. I'm probably getting ready to take the X6 in to BMW though. We got it 1 year ago and I had never had a BMW so I didn't think much about it. It's an N63 and I'm not positive on how long but I'm guessing my wife puts in a quart of oil every 750 miles, 1k if we're lucky. I'm going to have them do an oil consumption test but I know it's going to fail. Just not sure what will happen after that. |
