2014 X6 4.4 with misfires
2014 X6 4.4 80k
We've had the X6 for about 1 year with no problems. About 2 weeks ago I got a code for a bank 2 02 sensor so I ordered one and changed it out. Code went away and I didn't notice anything but my wife said that it kind of cut out on her when she gassed it. I think it was more stuttering to say than cut out. 5 days after that I went to start it in the morning and it went into limp mode with multiple codes. With the mileage on it I figured the spark plugs may be bad and that's what caused it to hesitate on her. I replaced all 8 plugs with NGK plugs. Didn't solve the issue. My codes are Misfires on cyl 8, 4, 5, 3, 6 and 1 Fuel Pressure low P15DF 02sensor I don't know if I didn't get something back on correctly or knocked something off but would an air leak cause these problems? I didn't figure it could cause the low fuel pressure issue. I also thought if I was having injector problems it wouldn't be so many at one time. Any thoughts on where to start my testing? Is there a way to test the pressure on the HPFP? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've always worked on my Jag and Rover but this is my first go at my wife's BMW. Thanks in advance, Rob |

The fact that you're misfiring on all cylinder and you have a fuel pressure low code, you may have a fuel pump issue.
There was a thread on here recently showing how to check fuel pressure, using ista or some other scanner. Look for that thread. |

No. All they do is spark.
Contact this guy to see what his solution was. https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1692751 |

I've looked around but can't tell but are the 2014 X6 4.4s covered under the extended fuel injector coverage? I know some went up to 10 years 120k miles. |

Yes you are correct they did extend the warranty on the fuel injectors just don’t recall the mileage .

I know since I'm getting misfires on 6 of the 8 it probably wouldn't work but I switched all of the coils to see if the misfires moved and they didn't. I did notice something. The turbo intake seal and elbow are loose. They move around quite a bit and the drivers side doesn't even have a bolt connecting it. I'm wondering if that could be causing an air leak which is causing the misfires. Maybe it was all ok until I removed the air filters to get to the 02 sensors and that cause it to loosen up. I've attached a pic of the drivers side. You can see the red seal and also the whole where a bolt I believe should be attached. Maybe on the drivers side that's not where it's supposed to be.
I believe this could cause misfires but not sure about the low fuel pressure. Thoughts? |

For sure this will affect the engine since its getting the air it doesn't expect to have,it can potentially trigger low fuel pressure as well since the mix getting too lean. Computer calculates amount of fuel and air for proper combustion process, so when there is too much air and not enough fuel it might think there is a problem with fuel pressure.

So the picture I posted if for the drivers side. The passenger side seems pretty secure. The hole I posted on the drivers side is on the top right side(probably 2 oclock position) I'm just wondering if the bolt is on a part of this connection that I can't see. If it is supposed to be bolted right there then no matter what I have to replace this.

Never mind, there is a bolt connecting it. It's around the 12oclock spot but the whole thing is still loose while the other side is tight. I'm not sure if I need to remove the turbo to access the bolt or not.

Wow, some times when you look at your car you wonder who the hell worked on it before you. So on the turbo intake where it attaches to the manifold(I think that's what it is) there is a whole in the elbow to put the bolt thru and attach it. There are two holes in the manifold. One at 12 and one at 2 oclock. The one at 2 lines up perfectly with the intake to secure it. Well, my bolt was in the 12 oclock which had nothing but a little pressure on the intake. I'm getting a new gasket today just in case and I'm going to remove the other side just to make sure. I also noticed a small coolant leak which appears to be coming from the small coolant line at the top and middle between the two turbos. Will replace that as well.

I replaced both turbo intakes and seals. The passenger side was busted around the lip. Unfortunately this didn't make a difference. I was going to order new coils today but I'm not sure it's smart. I don't want to chase the problem by buying new stuff until it's fixed. Seems strange to me that I would go from the car driving fine to 6 of 8 misfiring.

You need to grab a laptop, Enet cable, and load up ISTA. Then surf Youtube on how to use it, it is not very intuitive but very powerful. Or if you want to do a quick and easy but nowhere near as powerful: Grab OB2 scanner (a good one like a Foxwell NT10) or a ob2 bluetooth adapter and load up Torque pro on your phone. From here you can monitor your fuel pressures. The low pressure fuel pump should be supplying around 60-90 psi to the HPFP's, the HPFP's should be pumping out 1600-2000+ psi to the injectors fuel rails depending on load and rpm. I have a feeling its your low pressure fuel pumps going on you but only way to know for sure is to monitor the pressures. Last edited by Sophisticated Redneck; 07-07-2020 at 11:34 AM.. |

I got the cable in this morning and will download ISTA this evening. I'm going to use my wife's laptop because I'm not sure mine can handle a very robust program. Hopefully I can start it tonight and will come back to give numbers. More than likely it will just be at idle because I can't drive it and if I rev it too much it shuts off on me. I've got the drive train malfunction going on now as well.(I believe this is just to protect the engine)

Its been awhile but I think rail pressures were around 1500-1600psi at idle and of course it would raise rapidly with throttle/rpm. ISTA has both injector and fuel pump tests if I remember correctly. |

I'm pretty tech savvy but this ISTA program is just not going well for me. I'm getting quite angry about dealing with it. Was up until 2am last night and now working on it all day.

I installed it using the guide from the thread above and worked for me first time, what appears to be a problem with yours?
