LockIng doors question
A little embarrassed to ask but I can't lock the x5 unless I hit the lock button on remote. The interior lock button doesn't work and the handle access thing doesn't do it as well. When I touch the handle, the locking button on the doors move but that's it, just a slight movement like its trying.
What the h does that thing on the exterior handle do anyway, on my other truck it opens, locks one or all doors as long as fob is somewhere near. |

Yeah, bro, that's comfort access. They are little ridges on your door handle, correct? You touch those and your car locks and unlocks without pulling out the key. Something must be messed up with the connection from the door handle. If the car locks and unlocks without issues with the key, then the actual motor responsible for that is fine. It must be bad wiring or something. Either way, you're covered under warranty. Just get it looked at .

Yeah, definitely shouldn't be hard for the most important/basic function, lol. Let us know how it goes .

Nothing to be embarrassed about. I had the same issue. Are you sure you're not grabbing the door handle as of you were opening it? To lock the door, just tap the area on the handle with the ridges. Don't grab the handle. Otherwise the car thinks you're trying to open the door and will unlock instead.

I'll try it now Buckerine and advise. Another thing, the rear hatch won't close either utilizing button on dash, I get the same click but no motion...it does open the hatch though.

Wow, it works...still embarrassed but in my defense it works much different than my Infiniti. Now on to the rear hatch, is it supposed to close because it appears the switch goes both north and south?
Thanks guys... |

Yep, comfort access is super sensitive compared to Infiniti! It's best if you just use 1 finger when pressing the ridge to lock the door, otherwise it may think you're grabbing the handle to unlock. saabkyle04 demonstrates it very well in his BMW reviews on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NigBIsKYkug
To close the rear hatch from inside the vehicle, you have to pull the button and HOLD it the entire time. If you don't hold it up, it will stop closing the rear hatch. It will also make a beeping noise while closing the hatch as well. |

Good catch on the one finger touch guys. That totally slipped my mind to ask how he was touching the surface. Granted I don't have comfort access, but I remember how it works when I got an X3 loaner that had it.
@Artdnj, that's the whole point of these forums, my friend = to help each other out. Glad you got it working. Also, like @r33 mentioned, to be able to close the the trunk without having to hold the button and also to be able to close it with your key fob by tapping the trunk release button, coding is required. It's really easy for people who have already done it. All of us that have coded our cars, myself included, have had no issues with service etc. These features should come standard with our X5, but that's just how it is. If you have a coder near you, it would be much easier. You can find one here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=175. The other option is remote coding if you don't have anyone near you. That's how I got my car coded - I'm quite happy .

I was in a friends Renault earlier in the week.
It locks automatically as you walk away - it must be as soon as the key is out of range. Much more convenient than having to touch the ridges. |

Technically, the BMW way is a bit safer. For one, you have to actively lock the door so you know that it's locked for sure. And, more importantly, the Renault way leaves open the possibility that someone could conceivably still get into the car in the time between getting out and stepping out of the range of the key.
