Arrow Racechip install - it’s in !

How on earth are you guys getting to the driver side TMAP sensor?

The power steering reservoir is detached and to the side, still no room for a large hand to reach the sensor.

Is the plug too delicate to use a pair of pliers to detach/reattach?

Any replies or tips/tricks welcome.

A hook tool. Get one with a long angled L and you can reach the sensor from the opposite side of the metal brace.

Remove the support beam, and you'll have better access to the sensor.

I cut my hands, but the result was worth it.

I used both a hook tool and removed the support beam, it was still a tight fit. Driver’s side required two hands threaded through the maze of hoses, fingertip manipulation into sensor, and hook tool to click in RaceChip harness.

Next time, I’m borrowing a friend’s small child or putting out ad for dwarf/little person mechanic.

I, too, cut my mitts up fairly well doing this - even wearing thick nitrile gloves. Still riding around on the bypass plug to validate harness install, will report back with update when unit is plugged in.

I’m considering final placement either on the painted metal side, highlighted in green, or the headlight housing (red)

By the way, the circled hook is FAR sharper than it looks. I need to take a file to it, before I leave any more chunks of scalp behind.

I’d be remiss in not thanking Ben from RGSport for the great customer service, as well as the after-sale support.

Race Chip HP

Is it worth it? What extra HP are you getting? I know there are a couple different models. Feedback appreciated.

It is a good questions that has been asked and discussed many many times.

As of now, there are more and more options available than before.

So, you have to ask yourself a question. How would you like to spice up your life.
You can go with flash tune for aggressive, all the way to mellow gain but pricey because of its warranty coverage that they have advertised for years.

I chose light-to-medium spicy, hopefully without a side of voided warranty.

I have the equipment to flash tune the car, still prefer the piggyback route until the truck is out of warranty - then the kid gloves come off.

While a tight fit for bigger hands, the install is simple and straightforward.

The model is the RaceChip Black GTS with Bluetooth, allowing for in-cabin adjustments to tune.

No performance metrics yet, but Dragy and drag strip numbers are coming. If this X5 performs in a similar fashion to other similarly-equipped examples, I feel the RaceChip will have a good cost/result ratio.

Played around with the BlueTooth app today, couldn’t get the RaceChip+ app to link to the device, so went with the standard app.

I put it on “race” mode, and went for a ride.

The teenager in the passenger seat said it felt like the truck “jumped off the ground” when I floored it in second gear.

Power comes on noticeably stronger from about 2500 rpm on, and it pulls strongly to redline. No hiccups, no flat spots, just smooth power. I’m very pleased with the seat-of-the-pants improvement.

I’ll try and get some Dragy numbers soon, tracks open in 2 weeks.

That's what I noticed as well, 2500rpm and up and you feel a difference.

It's definitely worth it.

It goes without saying always use premium gas and do more frequent maintenance...
