My 1st BMW

I'm excited because it's my 1st BMW, I'm replacing my 2011 RR sport (lease) for a 2014 X5 3.5 AWD M sport pkg white/brown the car is being built. They didn't have the options I wanted or color so I have to wait for it's build.

The one problem was the saleswoman didn't know crap about the car. I know her for years as I was a salesman there for a short time 10 years ago. I asked about the suspension on the pkgs luxury, X line & M sport and she said they all drive the same? I don't know what she is saying ? I wanted the most softest ride but love the aggressive look of the M sport.
I have almost every pkg but didn't get the B&O, LED lights, entertainment or luxury seating. I really wanted the B&O and lights especially the lights !!! The idea of automatic high beams is awesome.

I don't want to do to many mods to the car because it's a lease. But I want the fog lamps to be HID I hate the 2 tone lights blue above and regular on the fogs.. Tint the front windows and I would love to do the brake clampers in that M5 blue sick. I never been so excited to have something built for me.

Pics will soon come she said the car should be ready end of July I started the process in the beginning of June.

Congrats on your new order and welcome to the X5 club .

Fog lights are LED, which are standard, so I don't know where you got your information/what you saw. The top lights are Bi-Xenon (pure white) and the fogs are LED (bluish white hue). If you have ever seen aftermarket xenons - the best way to describe the LED color in reference to HID comparison is around 5200-5300K. Pure white is 5000K. I hope that helps you regret less, lol .

Tint the windows because that's a must and an easy fix to remove. The brakes I would hold off on because you have to return it to them after your lease is done unless you plan on buying it after the lease is over. Spending around $2500 for that brake kit is a bit steep for a lease considering you will have to remove them when giving it back or lose the $2500 if they take it from you as is.

good luck Ninpo, I always say I would kill it as a BMW SA as most know squat about the cars they sell. I credit boards like this to educate people and I wish some sales agents would invest a little time to read up on the products they sell.

opasha, my wife wants me to tint the whole car sans front windshield a bit darker than the factory tint on rears. Will this effect reception for radio, sat, etc? Do I have to get a special kind, avoid certain types etc?

Also, my finance mgr has a hook for someone ro spray the 469M wheels black, he says it won't effect lease turn in but not sure he really knows for sure. Any input on this? Thanks.

Tint will not affect your reception. I have the Privacy Glass from BMW on the whole car and 18% carbon tint on the front two (they were clear and not privacy glass tinted when the car was bought). The car stays really cool because of this and looks great. Just avoid thick tints so you don't have any issues with your windows rolling up. Carbon tint works really well and lasts a long time. Many seem to prefer 30-35% tint if you don't want to go that dark. My 18% carbon allows enough sun to shine through where you don't get in trouble with police and blends really well with my Privacy Glass factory tint.

Let me know if you have other questions. There was a thread where we had a long discussion about tint earlier in the forums. I just forget where.

She's right as far as the suspension, they all have the same standard suspension unless you add some of the suspension upgrades. That said, I wouldn't say they all 'drive the same." M sport gives you the sport auto, certainly affects how it drives. Various wheel options would also affect ride quality you're looking for (however if you skipped the 20" wheel upgrade, again, all 3 have the same size 19" wheels and tires).

Opasha, are you sure about the standard fogs being LED? At least here in Canada, the standard is halogens with bi-xenon headlamps. Perhaps its different in the US?

Oh wow, really? Yes, they are standard in the US. That's unfortunate... why would Canada take out such a good feature that's standard in other parts of the world? I guess maybe that's why Europe has the nicer auto/moving high beams? My apologies, I did not know this .

Actually, it's the same in Europe, or at least in Sweden. Fog led are an option.

FYI. In the UK LED fogs are standard on all models...

You`re right. In Vancouver, to get the LED you have to add $2500. Don`t know about the other provinces.
Since i got a lease i don`t really care about LED or not LED. In 2017 i`m sure they`ll come out with something new.

Ninpo21, what`s your delivery date?

That fog light probably was on because you just turn the left blinker or turn the steering wheel to the left while the engine is running.
Nice looking car btw. Enjoy...

Probably because we're coming to the model year switchover, they need to fill all the 2014 orders and retool the line pretty soon, so I'm sure they are trying to fill the orders quickly and use up the rest of the allocations..

This is a huge guess, BTW.

Art there's a guy in central jersey that powder coats wheels and is very affordable and the work is f---zing amazing, the last time I used him he was charging $150 a wheel. As far as I know, BMW NA Lease are ok with turning back lease with same wheel different color according to my SA. My only concern would be is that he is not the guy who takes it back at the end. It's a gamble. Btw the guy who powder coats is a huge bmw guy.
