Just got my Carbon Black X5 Back from the Detailers

Just picked up my X5 from the detailers today. I made the mistake of leaving it outside in the sunshine near big tree so they had more problems to deal with than expected. Apparently tree sap+dark colour+sunshine+new car (before paint has really hardened) is a detailers nightmare :thumb down

They asked me if I wanted to know about the paint faults they found - they walked me through all the photos. Couple of panels had been resprayed, a few obvious (to their eyes) small ding/dent corrections etc and fine scratches - all done during manufacture by the looks of things.

However, after a few days of work (paint correction etc) she is looking beautiful!

Wow, that looks incredible. What did that cost, if you don't mind my asking? That sounds like a whole lot of work!

It was about 50 hours I believe. Best part of £1000 and on a 3 week old car

Looks awesome! If only they were delivered this way!
Have you had a sealant or life shine applied?

That was the original plan but apparently they are not good with tree sap (alkaline) so suggested I went for a sacrificial layer approach (ie. wax). Unfortunately I can't avoid parking near the tree.

They used a couple of layers of Swissvax Crystal Rock. Not cheap!

It does - and if I keep it away from trees, roads, kids, rain and sun it should hopefully stay looking like yours

They certainly do! Did feel slightly inadequate with the X5 they get some very tasty cars in

Amazing how crap the out-of-the-factory BMW paintwork is though under (very) close inspection. They did reassure me however that even the Supercars they get in are not perfect.

I was going to get the trims for the left and right grilles but my wallet needs to recover first. I like your black kidney grille so might do all at the same time

Apart from that - no mods planned (I've already done the usual coding mods).

Boat next - to go with the tow bar
