TPMS failing after wheel/tire swap
I purchased a complete set of rims and winter tires from Tire Rack. They knew the vehicle was an '18 X5 edrive M-sport.
No matter what I do - the TPMS will not reset/work with the new set. Attempted resetting a few times. Most times it stays 0%. From everything I'm reading- that is all that should need to be done. There were no TPMS issues prior to the swap. I'm calling tire rack for suggestions - but wanted to hit this knowledge group Bill |

Wow, what a way to sell things.
Couldn't imagine if that was my response. Anyway, let me try helping you even though it wasn't purchased from me. Reset the TPMS from the iDrive and kept on driving. Pay attention on the iDrive pictures, once the tires in the pictures turned Green, that's mean the sensors are detected. Kept on driving until it is fully sync'ed and showing the tire pressure. It may need 2-3 tries since this type that F15/F16/F85/F86 used as a bit slow and stupid.

Thank you for the advice and hints...
Yes, they (Tire Rack) said I'd need to do the iDrive process - which I did. Just got off the phone with them, they are now saying they come in a sleep mode, and I need to do a rapid pressure drop (5-10 PSI) then take to what the stickers show - that should wake it up. We will see - attempting that now and well let folks know incase others run into this. |

Doesn't mean to hijack the thread, but have a related question, hope some guru and folk here know and have the experience to answer it. If carrying a full spare wheel/tire with TPMS on it, would the spare's TPMS sensor interferes/messes up the 4 running TPMS on the wheels, including when the spare swap out one of 4 existing, e.g. a flat tire. I know not many X5 owners carry a full spare, but it's possible. I'm thinking about that for long trip pulling a travel trailer, to have a peace of mind.
Thank you. |

2. If answer YES , no worries , you just need to wake sensors up , because they in "sleep mode" now . just go to any tireshop and ask guys to activate TPMS , takes HALF MINUTE to do so . |

Welp - Tire Rack is thinking they may have put the wrong ones on the wheel. They are sending me another 4, and I'll go to the dealer. The 'wake up' procedure of deflate and re-inflate did nothing.
Yes, this worked fine with the factory tires. 2018 with 3000 miles. All working. Sigh. |

you just need the tool to wake them up , i did exactly the same last saturday sensors were installed first time , (2vb option wasnt activate on the canadian f15) installer just grab the tool and choose year and model and walk around my truck , as soon he touched the nipple 2 seconds after tire on his device turn GREEN . After i visit my coding guy and he activate module with 2VB option . I drove 10 minutes over 70 km/h and all wheels on iDRIVE turn green and start showing pressure and temp . Before a had system with ABS reading . |

Was typing too fast for my brain...$35 each, $140 for the set
I needed to replace the winter rubber on my HREs, and I ultimately decided to sell them bc of lack of OE sized staggered winter tire options and I prefer to rotate them season to season, so wanted to go back to a square setup. Ended up going back to APEX

Wanted to update the thread with what happened.
There were indeed 4 sensors in the tires, however, they were completely dead. Went to a local shop - their sensor wouldn't read any of them, even though they were 433 mhz. Tire Rack shipped 4 additional ones (oddly enough different than the ones in the tire) and paid for the shop to remount them. Immediately picked up on the BMW screen. What a mess! |

So without tpms I would have been stranded on the road somewhere when pressure would drop to 0psi and I would have ripped the tire for sure and possibly damaged rim too. Then I would have spent time and money to call for tow truck etc. So imho tpms still saved me a lot of money and time - they are pain at times, but still worth to have. |
