Day three and she was taken away like that- Totaled F15

Well I have to say this is officially the shortest I have ever owned a vehicle. My first F15 a 2015 X5 35i Msport with 30k on the clock. I was really excited to pour endless amounts of money into this vehicle.

Oddly enough an E39 5 series bmw was to blame and suffered tear damage.

The X5 is totaled, thankfully no wheels were injured so I am keeping those. Back to the search apparently.

Stay safe out there guys. [IMG][/IMG]

Thank you for saying that, my partner and our dog were in the car and are ok.

I hope to be back in an F15 soon and a part of this great community.

So unfortunate to read this; however, what matters is the well-being of all involved.

Good luck with the search for a replacement.

Haha, I wouldn't do that, it would be unethical.
Just your SSN will do,

Hood, bumper cover, fog-light, headlight (non LED?), plastic fender flair and some lower bumper trim with rivets: probably $3k top and $2k paint. I'm still amazed how easily North American insurance companies total expensive cars. So for them the car to be repairable it should only have a 2 inch scratch in the middle of hood - that's all that they can repair - everything else is automatically declared totaled. This is really fucked up.

So I spoke with the body shop, the owner stated it would cost in the ballpark of 20 grand to repair. That the insurance company require 80% total damage to total out. I explained I was not going to accept a diminished value vehicle in return even if it was fixed. So now I play the waiting game on if it's totaled or will be repaired and the value is lowered.

Any advice on this situation guys? A vehicle bought for 39k with 20k in damage and they want to fix it?

Unfortunately, the only way to get the diminished value is to sue. It sucks because the victim always gets screwed.

One way to look at this is...

Try and get the X5M bumper and other mods you wanted to do.

Are speaking directly to civil court of the defendant or the insurance company?

Right and get flamed for having a X5 35i with an X5M front end.

I mean...

I don't think you'll get flamed.

There's actually a guy that did front/rear bumper upgrade. Looks legit!

Here's the post.

$20k for this lol? You can tell by the pics that it's only cosmetics, not a single damage to frame - just pieces of headlight housing and fender/hood/bumper cover trim. Even holder brackets are intact.
I should have opened my insurance and collision company instead of going to med.school - would have made a lot of money scamming owners for $20k instead of $5k job.

First of all, I'm glad everyone's OK. @ Guntherpdx; Sorry about your X5, that sucks!
But when you find another one, RG Sport will be waiting in the shadows for your bank account info, he's Ninja like that (in a good way)... LOL

DuSh,I mostly agree with you. Nonetheless, in this case it is possible that there is frame damage where the bumper support attaches to the frame.

From the insurance company's point of view, if it is questionable, it is likely cheaper to total and move on, than fix and possibly have more issues and liabilities down the road..

I agree that it sounds outrageously high for the damage. I will report back what the total cost ends up being though.

From past experiences, bodyshops are never to be trusted!
Currently my opinion is that at least 50% of the bodyshops will try to scam you and the insurance company, one way or another!

Sorry to see this and glad to hear your alright. These X5s must be weak in this spot. Mine was hit in the exact same spot and totaled as well. It's like no insurance wants to fix them.

Who was your insurance through and was there any structural or frame damage? Yours looks about the same as mine.
