hard steering on cold start up

asking this question on behalf of my plumber.

he has a '15 x5 built in '14 he says he has a steering error on cold startups and the steering wheel is stiff but when he turns the ignition off and then back on the problem goes away.

any thoughts, bmw indy is stumped.

A lot of seemingly unrelated problems come from a weak battery. If it's original '14, I'd replace it regardless.

The steering is electric in case you didn't know.

that's what i suggested, swap the battery out.

I'd also consider a battery tender if you don't do a lot of long distance driving. Top up the battery once a month or more will keep it going strong.

i ran the carly app and saw a tons of steering angle and eps codes.

We did a full software upgrade and no issues so far.
