If you have 2015 nbt, can't you just update the physical idrive and touchscreen, but costly.

That's a good question. It's something I'll definitely look into also.

initially i was going to do the retrofit for in a 2015/16 x5, until i found my current 2017 at a good price.

looking back.. i could of saved more $$ just getting a 2015 and doing the retrofit as everything else besides the nbtevo seems the same except the mileage.

Yeah, that's always gonna be a tough call with either decision you make. Enjoy the ride!

If anybody is interested in getting this activated, send me a PM and I will connect you with the person who did it for me. The process was very easy and straightforward and cost me around $100.

Please connect me. Thanks a bunch.

Have you ever do a trans fluid and filter replacement? Any feed back on this?
Thanks

I've done exactly this and the cost is not as high as you would think. There are a few wrinkles with this retrofit the most glaring one is that you will no longer have remote connected drive access. I am eventually going to work through this as well but I rarely used remote access anyway so not sure I want to invest the time.

Is there a DIY on this somewhere? Perhaps part of the coding cheat sheet?

No, you may be confusing comfort access with remote access: I lost the ability to use the connected drive app (iphone/android) when I am not in wifi range of the car. For example if you want to send an address to the nav from your phone while at your office.

ahh okay. i have that feature as well and never use it. with carplay, you can just pull open the maps (apple, google, waze) on your phone. then when you get in car, carplay will display the map on the screen. also after you've used carplay maps to find a destination, you can still opt out and use idrive maps and hud.

this is the same thing which connected app does anyways but with carplay.

Just did this mod today and it is amazing. Can't believe the car didn't come this way to begin with.

BimmerTech sent me a file, which i downloaded to usb. Simple instructions to install on the car. Literally the easiest mod.

There's a charge for the file of course, but it's totally worth it to me.

I have been thinking of going back to "regular" carplay as you really only pickup 2 icons and horizontal space on the map with fullscreen. With the regular setup you can also have entertainment split on the right which I think I prefer.

Anyone else feeling this way after having fullscreen for a while?

Same here. Google Maps and Waze are far superior to BMW's nav. I do miss not having the heads up display navigation but I can live with that in exchange for better traffic routing. It's also nice being able to select your playlists in Apple Music/Spotify right from the CarPlay screen.
