OEm trailer harness

I am about to order a hitch 2” for bikes and also the ability to put different height ball attachments. Looking online and extended searches it looks like I have to buy BMW only harness. Is this plug and play or does it require a bunch of cutting. Thanks.

It will require a trailer module and coding. However if you only want to use for bike racks then you really don’t need to get the module and wire harness.

Trailer module part number: 71-60-6-889-589
Wire harness part number: 82-71-2-349-500

Zero cutting, but not directly plug and play per sey either. I'd recommend reading through this thread...

I would be pulling the odd utility trailer so lights would be needed. But I don’t mind if when I’m in reverse it beeps a little and I don’t need the camera zoom.

That's all the coding is for. Just plugging in the harness it will auto detect and work. But coding is mostly for hitch zoom and maybe one other non needed feature. Not sure if the brake controller needs coding but not needed for a little utility trailer.

Do I still need both of these if I have the "trailer coupling" option?

I am not sure what the trailer coupling option is. Do you already have the hitch cross tube installed? If so do you have the receptacle? You can also check inside the fuse box to see if you have the module.

If you don't code, I don't think the brake lights will work...

Thought they worked auto natively with the smart harness integration...? Idk though I never towed with my set up. Just bike rack
