Thanks for pointing that out. I'll give that a shot. The wraps should be installed at factory by default given this is a known and predictable issue.

it should be but you need 90+days after paint is applied before you put ppf on a vehicle... if you place it on a vehicle before it cures you will have severe paint issues.

Clay bar will remove road tar and grime easily and make surface silky smooth ready for wax/sealant, but for sand blast - it depends how deep it's gotten. Clear coat damage is ok, but if paint got damaged - there is no other way, but to repaint imho

2017 X5M. No concerns with this at all and I am anal retentive. I keep the vehicle washed and detailed. I am accepting of some wear and tear on the paint. Will get something new every 36 months.

Just ordered an M as well and stumbled over this thread. I never had issues with my E70 40D, what wheels are people running with who have this issue?

I ordered my car with the standard 20", does it happen with that or only with the 21" ones?

I’d say it’s worse on the 21”, but it likely all depends on the type of roads you drive on.

I'm curious how much tires have an impact on this. I recall on my E46 M3 that my PS2s always picked up a bunch of sand and rocks and it was extremely obvious as you could see them stuck to the tires when stopped. I'm going to be putting 22s with summer tires on in the spring and am thinking about having some addtl xpel installed in the areas noted in this thread.

Can folks post the following:

1. Tires you are running
2. whether you have sandblasting issue or not?

TIA

What color is it? And what location are you? You can google a near by Sprayless Scratch Repair. That works great with road rash specially micro chips . It fill them in smoothly and then you can clear bra it!

- Side Mirrors and Door Cups
- Entire Front Bumper
- Headlights and Fog Lights
- Rocker Panels
This is great but it will not address the rockers and doors getting sandblasted. Had mine repainted and doing the XPEL protection on the rockers, partial doors and wheel arches on March 7th with Derek too.

The sandblasting effect is exacerbated with spacers as well.

How much for repaint?

My dealer had put on the protection film at and below the red in the picture. They also did full front bumper, hood, mirrors, door sills and full rear bumper.

The area at the bottom of the doors does get its share of abuse, but holding up well.

Correct, I had my dealer repaint my rockers on my E70 X5 M Sport. They did the repaint for free but I paid for the PPF.

Exactly. This was the case for many who complained or expressed concern. If you go this route do not apply PPF for 90-120 after paint.

I did the front grill in all black too. It was $2K cause I did all 4 doors (the whole door), rockers, and wheel arches.

I've got spacers front and back and the areas you pointed out are blasted pretty bad. I didn't install a wrap or paint protection film, but would be curious to hear what others have done once the damage is done.

Unfortunately in your case only a repaint can get you squared away. Then after the paint is done curing and off-gassing apply paint protection film.

Actually they did not, but when I took the car for the ceramic coating the same shop applied PPF to remaining impact areas. So it's all covered now.
