Does anyone have a DIY guide for swapping out the X5 steering wheel?

Everything is an "upgrade" option on a Porsche...

True, lol. Unlike BMW!

These "premium" brands work hard to find ways to charge us "premium" rates at every angle. D

Hey guys,

I just received my M Sport steering wheel today. I can't for the life of me get the airbag off the current wheel.

I got 1 spring pushed, but no matter how hard I search for the spring on the passenger side, I can't find it...

Nevermind - I got it! Wow what a nice upgrade. I should've done this on Day 1!

$780 shipped with dual stage airbag (off ebay). Everything works well, wheel is new. Well worth it.

Yes, could not be happier. Make sure you get the right options for your car (WITH vibration for me - and WITH dual-stage airbag).

Looks good! Nice upgrade. It’s an easy upgrade, takes 30min and hour and makes a substantial difference.

I upgraded from M Sport to ///M Alcantara and couldn’t love it.

Well done.

I had alcantara on my 2006 M3 and it drove me nuts. It pilled a lot after a few months of use. Love the soft leather on this M wheel.

The hardest part for me was unclipping the original airbag. Just jamming the screwdriver in and hoping you find the right spring was beyond difficult...Other than that its like a 15 minute install!

It sounds like your new wheel came assembled. A lot of the time of my swap was taking everything off the old wheel and putting it on the new one.
What’s next?

What’s next?
Yes it was fully assembled, just plug & play.

Next mod for me? I'm content now. This wheel + CarPlay did the trick. I'm only interested in mods that increase my comfort.

No paddle shifter?

Gotta me F30 steering wheel.
Good mod, but just keep that in mind, so later in the future if you need parts for it, you need to look that is for F3x 3/4 series.

Good catch, I didn’t notice that it was missing paddles. Can he add them on?

I know it's not a mod, but nothing give me a feeling like a freshly detailed car. Sometimes just the interior when weather is nasty. It always gives me a lift and can be repeated as necessary.

Steering wheel looks great!
