Saying Hi - new 18 X5

Just a quick hello from a new owner.

To make a long story short - the X5 is #67 in a long line of cars. I've had so, so many. Everything from Jeeps to Infiniti to V8 Vantage to the new X5.

My last BMW was a 2007 550i. They bought it back after 6 months.

I came to the X5 after moving from LA to Dallas 2 years ago. I thought moving here would be fun for my mini collection of cars - 2011 V8 Vantage, 15 custom Wrangler Unlimited (car for my 3 Dobermans), Infiniti QX70S, 15 370Z track car, 16 Audi S5 and finally a 16 Audi S6. Shortly I realized that while the wide open spaces ensure faster driving over LA, the drivers, environment and crap roads made it all futile. So I started culling my heard.

Was left with a 2016 S6, and 2018 Q7. My S6 was wrapped in matte grey, tuned to over 600hp, suspension mods, lots of other small mods. Audi is horrible regarding tunes. So all services had to be done at a local custom shop to avoid OBD reading. At my 12k oil change, shop said there was a small leak in the bevel box. I asked how long until it was an issue, and if I wanted to just replace it now...tell me how much. They said I could prob go 12+ more months and the cost was 8k.

:/

Then one day, driving I got sand blasted by a truck. Replacement cost for windshield - 2700, 1k to calibrate cams, 2400 for each LED headlamp. At the same time, Audi has been hard flagging tuned cars with a TD1 and 100% voiding all warranty, and LOTS of S6s started blowing turbos (even in stock form).

So I dumped it for a reliable 18 Q70S (I used to have one as my daily in Los Angeles).

After 6 months, I was over it. And we decided to move back to LA.

Hence my new X5. So far I'm really happy. Considered the 19 - but I never buy first model year of a car, even if its just a refresh. Not a lot of inventory - but found a new one with 17 miles and got a great deal.

Already doing my list of mods.

MSport front, side sills and rear bumpers
Chrome delete
Black kidney grills
Prob Eibach lowering springs
Metal pedals
side vents
piggy back tune
coding tool

It was raining when I picked up my car...hopefully that is not an omen.

Thanks - to everyone.

I have been scouring this forum since I brought it home Tuesday. I've been on all my car forums since WAYYY back in like 2004. Before they were such a big thing.

In those years I've learned a lot, bought a lot, broken a few things in the process, and seen good and bad forums. lol

I will have lots of questions once I get past the break in period. I drive back to LA with 2 of my 4 Dobermans end of next week. So that will cover the break in period.

Already learning I'll have to paint the M Sport parts as they don't come in dark graphite, learning about the various drops (Eibach versus H&R), tyring to understand the coding options and what to buy to do it, and which piggy back to get until out of warranty. I've always done flashes - but since the S6 I will not do that again for a while.

Also - happy you are relatively close by!

I was spoiled here with my Audis - this amazingly beautiful shop called Blair Automotive was only 7 min from my house.

Based on your prior history of performance vehicles I certainly hope you have the 50i like I do. 35i is fine, 50i is thrilling.

I did not want the 50i, as I will be back in LA. I had a GC SRT8 a while back, when gas was almost $6 per gallon. I would be sitting in LA traffic watching the needle drop while barely moving.

LOL

I'll tune the 35 to perk it up a bit. Average MPH around LA is about 19.

My plan is to probably get a 17+ GTR for those days I want crazy power. So many improvements over the 11 I had.

So DD the X5 and its great for my dog kids.

LA roads have gotten better - but the recent rains have taken their toll again.

So far I'm impressed with this forum.
