Advice Needed - Buying Pre-Owned X5 M / X6 M
Hello All,
First-time poster here and I have a question for those that have purchased F85/F86 non-CPO vehicles. My 2015 X5 35i lease is set to expire soon and I am looking to purchase a MY 2015 X5M or X6M with fewer than 30,000 miles and I’m noticing that very few are CPO. This isn’t meant to be a, “Which is better” question, rather I am looking for insight/advice from those that have experience with non-CPO M vehicles and how that’s gone for them. Should I even consider this at all or be patient and hold out for CPO vehicle? If non-CPO then a third-party warranty is probably a must, correct? I’m kicking the tires on a couple of non-CPO vehicles right now. Both clean CarFax with regular service history: 1. 2015 X5M | 11,023 miles | Black Sapphire/Sonoma Beige | $66,800 2. 2015 X6M | 23,610 miles | Donington Gray/Black | $66,998 The X5 looks flawless (photos and video) and the low miles is attractive. Add on about $1,300 to ship. The X6 has better options such as BO sound (cool) and rear entertainment (does nothing for me) but is a little more dinged up which is to be expected. The dealer also offers an extended “comprehensive coverage” warranty for 5 years or 100,000 miles at $5,141. I am based in Long Beach, CA so if any Southern CA folks have leads I will certainly take them. Ultimately I know there is added risk and likely added cost going non-CPO and curious to hear from those that have experience if they would do it again. Thank you in advance, your input is much appreciated. |

I posting here to satisfy one of my requirements shown below: "hank you for verifying your account!
In order to use the PM system and be a full fledged member of this community, you will have to make 1 post reply and wait 1 hour for your account to be upgraded." I am registering to get some guidance in buying a BMW X5M or X5 - f15! |

I just got (10/1/18) a 2016 X6M CPO 35k miles for 66.8. Probably could have gone lower but I was sick of shopping and this one was mint. Every option but night vision and rear entertainment. Donnington/black interior, perfect shape. Brand new Michelin's and full service history including run-in service at 1200. I added $2400 (not in the 66.8) for 2 years full maintenance. In case that helps.
Oh...the bonus find post-sale was the dealer installed Dinan Dinantronics. Lol. I bought the car sight unseen and that was a nice surprise. |

Thanks you!
I saw the door jamb sticker while confirming GVWR on VIN sticker and was like what the hell is this?! I saw Dinan on a white label and thought, nah. That can't be. The dealer would surely have mentioned that. So I had to verify..... sure enough, the Dinan module was there with another sticker under the valance near the master cylinder. I was surprised as hell. It had the bmw dealership install written on the label as well, so it was professionally done. Lucky day!! |

And after the test drive, I just couldn't wipe that silly grin off my face. It made my previous stock E70 M feel so slooow & sluggish. It made my day too. Enjoy in good health! |

I stuck to the BMW USA web site and ignored all others. There are some sketchy cars out there IMO. Really low/no risk if you are buying from BMW IMO. All service records are likely right there. It's usually a low like mile lease return. If the price is too low, it is too good to be true.
I would not be afraid to have shipped either. Get a lot of pics, ask for any dings or dents, confirm not smoked in, get service records and off you go! I also got 4% bmw financing and no hassles. I think it was pretty fair. There are also services like WeGoLook to inspect cars you can't get to. Added layer of comfort. Good luck! |

I just turned in my ‘16 X6M. Check out Open Road Edison NJ CPO inventory. Its listed for $69. I think it had 29600 miles.

I still looking but am kind of scared about the service and repair aspect of the X5M. I heard that an extended warranty is mandatory on these vehicles. I check out some of the plans including BMW Platinum plan. Very expensive! I may just go back to buying a BMW f10 sedan. They are not as popular and dealers are willing to deal!
