F15 on All Terrains

Just had these 255/55/18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers mounted on my OEM wheels. Very happy with the outcome.

Looking good! Btw, did you have them installed at the dealer? If not, did you find a shop to force balance the tires, or just used a regular shop?

I always use discount tire. They force balance, and work on wheels and tires (American force off-road forged wheels) on 35x13.5s for me and I’ve never had an issue. I’d absolutely never waste the money to take it back to bmw to do a simple task like that lol

That’s great, didn’t think discount tire would force balance. i tried one reputable indy and was told they don’t offer any tire services but they have the machinery to force balance if needed as part of a larger service work, so I gave up and spent $$$ at the dealer who also forced me into buying tires from them (apparently they will only install tires purchased from them) next time I’ll use discount tire!

I'm assuming these types of tires were mounted for a specific reason?

I was also curious about this. I used to live in a really rural area only accessible by dirt roads and contemplated this.

I work for a commercial general contractor, so I don’t wanna get stuck in wet grass on site in front of all our workers lol

More pics. Coated the wheels to see how I liked black. It’s temporary.

You could probally squeeze a larger sidewall ie 255/75/r18 that should fill up the wheel gaps a little more or have that 20in rim look, and give you a 1/2 inch more ground clearance, 255/85/R18 would be about 21in rim but might risk of scraping the wheel well when bottoming out.

BTW how's tire noise?

I run ridge grapplers on all my trucks. tire noise is next to nothing with these, I love them!

Niceeee! My next set of tires will be AT also. BMW's all wheel drive is quite good, all that is needed are proper AT tires and just a tiny bit more ground clearance. My OEMs are the 19" all around. Since there are no AT in 255/50R19, I will get 255/55R19. The added size in tire diameter is so small, I do not think I will have a problem with the fronts rubbing when turning full lock...

+1 really excited to see these with aggressive tires! I hope this trend keeps going, I personally enjoy the practicality of not having huge low profile set ups.

By chance did you ever mount tires in that size? I've just purchased an F15 (first X!) and am looking to swap the stock 20" wheels to 19", and run a mild all terrain in 255/55R19 as well. Did some basic measuring and it looks like there's 7/8" between the tread and the upper control arm knuckle (on my 275/40R20s), so they should fit.
