Carplay Android auto box - do you remove battery when installing?
Hello everyone,
I received a Carplay/Android Auto box to put behindy X5 radio. When installing, do you suggest to remove the negative on the battery or should I leave it on? For the videos I have seen, they don't do it but wanted to your Pov. Thanks! |

Yes, Disconnect. Just make sure you don't close your trunk all the way, put something there to avoid that.

I did the Andream Carplay mod on my F10 m5 for the wireless Carplay. I did not disconnect my battery before I did the install but its not recommended. You are better off on the safe side.
Im not sure what coding you are referring to, disconnecting the battery shouldn't effect anything with regard to coding other than that your clock will have to be reset. I will tell you though that while the carplay worked great the bluetooth call quality was absolutely horrible. I found that most of the time I ended up using my phone's speaker phone instead of the bluetooth because of it. I played with all the settings, spent hours on the forums and NOTHING I could do would fix the annoying bluetooth issues. Anybody I would be on the phone with would instantly complain because of the echo on the phone. Going a completly different route on my X5. While yes far more costly, Im doing an ID6 swap this way I get carplay and don’t end up with any of the issues I had in my M5.

Calls go through the oem bluetooth connection on all the current firmware versions and the universal firmware. I think the only time it doesn't is when you initiate the call from the Android Auto side (but I usually initiate it from the car anyways). When you receive calls, it'll go through the oem side.
I have thought about the ID6 swap but with the 40e, I don't want to lose Connected Drive - specifically the remote start that the 40e can do with Connected Drive. I disconnected my main 12v battery, no real issues that I know of. I think it's just coincidence that my aux went out on my 40e a couple months after. Reading this though, and man, I should have disconnected more, lol. |

Re the factory bluetooth the unit I had didn't do that, May be because of the one that I got on Alibaba but the call quality was so horrible I couldn't go down that road again.
