So now that it's riding better that means that the suspension isn't hitting the bump stop anymore and is now hitting something else? Curious because I like the ride height and I'm about to install mine.

You must be referring to part #3 (Auxiliary damper w.protective tube rear) in this diagram of the rear suspension, no? Yeah, it's pretty long. So you were reassured it's fine without it? What would happen if you accidentally hit a bump/speed-bump or pot hole at speed, say 40mph?

Wow, what would it be? I see nothing else in this complete technical diagram of F85 rear axle. Or may be you saw it without its protective tube?

Great thanks and I'm assuming/hoping its in the boot on the strut. Hoping its not somehow in the airbag itself.

Correct, it can only be the above mentioned part #3 which sits between the struts and the strut mounts. It's called the Auxiliary damper and is inside the protective corrugated rubber boot - part number 33537850217. There's nothing else in the entire rear axel. It's not much different than the rear suspension of my X5 E53 in which I overhauled myself the entire suspension system of the vehicle, installing the E53 HR springs and links.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...BMW-X5_M&mg=33 In any case, I'm planning to do the same mode with VTF HR springs on my F86. Your F85 looks amazing. But I think I will shorten this auxiliary damper rather than remove it entirely. Here's a pic of it I found on the web. Last edited by musa; 08-22-2019 at 10:47 PM.. |
