UK 'sneak peak’ of 3D M Sport
Hi all.
My local dealer has asked if I want a preview of a model they have pre its November UK launch. So naturally I’m off there this Sunday morning! It's a 30d M Sport in Space Grey. Any questions or things to look out for for my viewing? Will try and get some pictures if allowed! |

That sounds like fun. Likely the same car that has been ssen by other members. Some detailed pics of the seats (hopefully sport seats) would be great. Any fedback on the new sport seats would be great. Comfort, cushioning, size of bolsters, etc. thx

Hi All,
Well, had a brief look around the 3D M Sport on Sunday. Disappointed that a) could not take any photos and b) car was set up in ‘Transport’ mode so nothing really worked and c) lots of plastic wrapping used to cover seats and door cards. In Transport mode the car sits is a few centimetre’s higher, especially the rear. But the car has presence with the body kit, Air Curtains and its rather nice 20” Y spoke wheels. It was disappointing that none of the electrics really functioned so not able to get a feel for the car other build quality of the exterior and cabin. Which, as you would hope is good. The interior although of higher quality than the current model is not that different..evolution not revolution. I don’t like the new iDrive Control screen..looks awkward and an afterthought as it sticks up, like a sore thumb. Maybe it will grow on me. Liked the ambient lighting which was electric blue..looked good against the black leather interior. Boot looks to be the same size as current model so nothing new there. I could not drive the car but the power steering seems VERY light compared with my E70. I assume this is the Active Steering option? It's launching on Friday 15th November here in UK so have a test drive on the Saturday morning Any questions..happy to assist |

I also do not understand how you know the feel of the steering without doing any driving. Anyways, as I am about to tick active steering option, have yet to read a review explaining how good/bad it is. On current X6 it is very well executed. On the previous 5 series it mega sucked so it is not always very well done. I would not want it to be too light at slow speeds.

I assume active steering varies the steering ratio (as opposed to simply varying boost). I've got no problem with variable boost, if that's something you want, making it easier to move the steering wheel at lower speeds, like in a parking lot. However, I've driven variable ratio cars before and I hated it. It was very distracting. After driving for awhile, your mind, hand eye coordination, etc, become calibrated to the steering. If you are used to driving around at 40 or 50 mph, then slow down to pull into a parking lot, suddenly a small movement of the steering wheel produces a larger turn of the front wheels. I always found myself surprised by the sudden change in turning ratio and would have to adjust mid turn to not turn in so sharp. Didn't like it at all. My advice is to try it before you order it, and at least understand the difference between variable steering ratio, and variable steering boost.

I do have a question I hope you or someone can help with, I notice from the US pricing specifications that the panoramic roof is included as standard? But I cant see any reference to this for European models? Im not surprised to be honest if its not but just wondering if you know otherwise? Also, as I will probably place my order shortly after the 16th Nov test drive (Im going for the 40d M) do you (or anyone) thing there will be any movement on the standard list price - again I'm seeing varying reports of discounts applied to US buyers? Yeah as above panoramic roof is definitely a cost option. So is the ambient lighting which personally I'm not paying for. I'm picking up my x30d msport in mineral white on the 16th of November (with pano roof) so I'd be keen to see any pics that you have of the car. I couldn't get any discount from my local dealers even when I showed them a discount from a distant dealer they would not budge so I went with the dealer offering a discount. Im going to test drive the X5 on launch date (Nov 16) and perhaps I might place an order shortly after, although your suggesting of waiting till Januray for any possible discounts make sense. My current X5 lease runs out end of April so I'm still within the 14 week order period. Only thing is I'm planning on going for the 40d M this time (having had the 30dM) so still a risk discounts will be heavy side of nothing! |
