CPO and Wrap Warranty Questions

I am just about to sign documents for a 2017 X5 35d that is nicely equipped (Msport, B&O, DHP, DA+,MCseats, etc..). It is a CPO vehicle with 21k miles. My understanding is that the 1 year unlimited starts after I hit 50k miles (or 4 years). I should hit 50k at 3 years, so I then will have 1 year of CPO warranty which will take me to 65k at year 4 (I drive 15k a year). If that is not correct, and CPO is really for 5 years and unlimited please let me know.

The finance guy offered me the BMW platinum 6/100k warranty for $3249. This will give me 2 additional years as I understand it. He also threw in windshield repair. It is very hard to find pricing for warranties, and even harder for CPO wrap warranties. Anybody know if this is way too expensive?

Thanks guys!

Take a close look at all of the limitations of the CPO before making your final decision. Most buyers assume it is a continuation of the factory warranty, but it is not even close.

That exclusion list seems to include a lot.... It comes with CPO it is just a matter if I extend it and enhance it with platinum to cover electronics.

They have changed the rules in the past few years so please ask. I purchased a 2015 CPO and they extended the Warranty 2 extra years (so I got 6 years from the day the first owner purchased it) and up to 100K miles. Whatever happened first.

I have seen some 2016 and 2017 CPO with 6 years total and unlimited miles.

They offer 2 different CPO warranties. One 5 year and one 6 year, unlimited miles from the ORIGINAL in service date. Say the car was originally sold 4-15-2017 to the first owner. CPO coverage would be good until 4-15-2022 or 4-15-2023, depending on if you purchased the five or six year coverage. Regardless of miles. The six year coverage usually costs about $3K more than the five year coverage. If you are looking at purchasing one with the five year warranty you can purchase/upgrade to the six year fort extra $$$$.

Thanks! I knew the CPO used to be 2 years and they changed it to 1 year. I didn't know they could still offer 2 years. Perhaps it is just an extra year of gold coverage. If the difference between 5 and 6 years is around 3000, then maybe i didn't get a bad deal going from 4 years (i will hit miles before 5 years) to 6/100k for $3250.

I guess the question is: Is 2 years additional coverage for approximately 30k miles worth $3250? This is my fifth BMW and haven't had issues with the others, but this one is much more vehicle than my previous 3 and X3 series. I have heard the diesels have issues, but those might not even be covered under the platinum warranty.
